Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

ChristieMom:  Just remember that they can be told that this may be their last call...however, they can get awarded calls, etc. so still keep your phone glued to you!  Spur of the moment calls are not uncommon in Bootcamp!  :-)

How many got phone calls from their SR in 13/079? If so, did they say that would be their last call before the "i'm a sailor" call?

Good Morning and Happy New Year!

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on January 1, 2014 at 9:30am

If your Sailor will fly out to a new base on PIR weekend and you plan to meet them at the airport you should mail this info on an index card to your recruit.  Once they get their itinerary they should fill it out and then keep it to give it to you at PIR. They won't have this info in time to mail it. When they go back to their ship and rack to check out remind them to get this. This will keep you from ending up at the wrong airport. :)

Please fill this out when you get your flight itinerary/orders and then give it to us at PIR. Do not mail it.
