Which is the best one to attend?  How important is it to attend?  We will be arriving at Chicago around 3PM on 1/31/2013 and checking in at the Residence Inn in Waukegan.  The Sundance Saloon - is that at a hotel or a different venue?

I would like to attend sarge meet and greet would find it helpful to know how long she has liberty and the best way to enjoy this time

The Sundance Saloon is acroos the street from/behind Springhill Suites.  It looks to be about a 1/2 mile from the Residence, from what I see on GoogleMaps.

  We have not made our reservations for anything because the website said the sailor may not make the PIR date and the sailor wont know  if they are going to the PIR til the end of bootcamp.  Should we make our reservations and couont on the sailor being at the PIR?  We are hoping to come in a day earlier.  Any help appreciated.  Thank You!!!

We are staying at Courtyard. Cheaper then Residence Inn . Its about 0.4/ 1min from Sundance Saloon and 0.4 further from the Naval Base than Residence Inn. We have always had a good stay with Courtyard hotels.

@snowman  --  all I can say is that you must use your  own best judgement (No help, huh? <smile>)  To me the factors are that:  A high percentage actually do make their original PIR date;  a graduation like this one is going to mean around 1200 new sailors!  that means a proportionately large number of incoming guests; there are a finite number of rooms in reasonable distant; and if flying in, there are an increasingly smaller number of seats as airlines reduce schedules.  Myself, I am booked for flights and for room.  The room at almost all major chains can be changed up to the day before; and I am already prepared to take the financial hit ($150/leg) if I have to amend my flight schedule.  {In my case, it is actually cheaper by $60 to just book another set of tickets with the actual airline!  My current flights were booked thru my normal airline for the flyer miles.}

@MSgtRet, I like your reply. So true, it really is our own judgements. I too have booked my flights and hotel. I have total faith that my son will be fine and graduate on his expected date. Still waiting on his first letter. Thanks for your input.

Any news on Sarge's meet & greet yet?  I want to get registered!!! ;-)
