OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Good Day All!

" "For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord,

'plans to prosper you and not to harm you,

plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call upon Me

and come and pray to Me and I will listen to you.

You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.' "

Some parents are receiving phone calls from their SR and telling them it has been changed to 3 guests.

Has anyone else heard that only 3 guests can attend PIR on 02/07/14?... Someone posted on the Facebook group page PIR 02/07/14 that she received a call from her son and they changed it from 4 guests to 3 guests.

Thank you for that information Diannep. I have been writing letters almost everyday & as a matter of fact had just finished writing a quick one this morning. I felt the need to get one out this morning before the mailman comes. I have almost felt selfish for writing so many letters because it is really therapeutic for me. I have at times felt like I might be writing too much. Hasn't stopped me though. LOL It's funny, we are writing because they need encouragement and sometimes we moms need encouragement too so thank you to all the veteran moms on this site who help so much

Good morning everyone, one thing to be aware of as far as where their duty station will be when they finish A school or C school.... They take a test during A-school and that test is very important. Lets say there are 40 people in their class. Whoever scores the best on that test gets first pick from the list of what's available as far as their duty station goes. So if your Sailor scores the highest on the test and wants to be Norfolk, then he/she can pick Norfolk only if it is on the list. They have to have a need for that rate at that specific base/command in order for the location to be available. If they score the 10th highest score then 9 people will pick before them. So if there is somewhere they really want to be then they need to study hard and do well to increase their chances. If they wanted Norfolk and it's not on the list then they can look for other bases in that area like Oceana, Little Creek, or several others that are all in the VA Beach area :)

The Deers packet usually comes a few weeks into boot camp. Hopefully you all will have those soon :)

This is such a confusing emotional time for these SRs.  Many are away from home for the first time, and with little to no contact with family and all that is familiar to them, it is so hard.  They are so regimented....on everything they do...even their shower time (ask them about that), etc.  It can be quite shocking for those who don't come from military families.  They see some SRs leaving their divisions, assuming that they are being discharged (but some are being setback and will rejoin a later PIR group)...and it probably scares them.  Letters from home are the best thing in the world for them!  Write often, keep them light, funny, detail activity of the family (only positive news!) and even of the family pets!  They need laughter in their down time...scan pictures on the back of your letters or on a separate sheet of paper (saves space for them to store the letters and also keeps from having thick envelopes that have to be opened in front of their RDCs).

Encourage encourage encourage....and also be bold and ask others in their life to write....family, neighbors, teachers, church friends, etc.  They cannot receive too much mail!

Good Morning All !
