N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Bobbi,

Sailors flying to A school will usually leave RTC during the early morning hours of 12:30 am and arrive at either O'Hare or Midway about 1:30 am.  All the Sailors no matter what time their plane departs from that airport will be bussed at the same time.  Families can meet them at either airport to give them their cell phone, cell phone charger, laptop, iPad, own comfy underwear, favorite treats from your state and also can obtain gate passes with state id or birth certificates or school ids with pictures to run around the airport eateries/gift shops and see your Sailor off at the gate.  It is a great memory of time spent with your Sailor! You can catch up on sleep at your hotel if you've booked for a longer stay or on your way back home~~

If your Sailor leaving out of O'Hare has a later flight, you can check-in for a very reasonable daily rate at the Hilton just down the way from the baggage claim area and have a room to rest and relax in!

VKat:  There are significant deductions for uniforms/bootcamp expenses from their first couple of paychecks, but they will eventually be paid back in allowances (not during bootcamp).  But he should still have enough to buy a laptop at A School.

Navy Lodge is one of the recommended places to stay.  Prices range from around $66 to $71 depending on type of room.  Simple "fixins" but renovated not long ago, clean, and very helpful staff.  Be sure to book in your SR's name.

You are very welcome, Denise!  :-)

Got my letter today! My husband is in Ship 04 Division 807. So excited to start sending him all my letters and cards. Already have a pile!

I have a question. Will uniforms & other costs take up most of their bootcamp pay. My son is planning to purchase a new laptop when he gets to Goose Creek & I'm wondering now if he will have enough after he pays for everything at bootcamp.

I haven't introduced myself....I am one of the N4Moms veterans on here to help with questions!  My son was at bootcamp in 2009 and is now out of the Navy, going to school on the GI Bill.  I have stayed on here since his bootcamp days to help!  So....please read the info that ellen has posted in the 'pages' section above under the MEMBERS PHOTO BOX.  If you have questions after that, please post them.  ellen, Lala, CatMom, or I will try to answer each and every one!

Welcome to the bootcamp journey!  :-)
