Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by Beth on January 31, 2014 at 1:41am: Some days have been worse than others, this one has been very long. I'm really missing my sailor, People keep asking what is wrong.
I've learned to say allergies because that they understand, it also explains the weepy eyes and the tissue in my hand.
But I've found a place where I can go and let my tears flow free, where I can find day or night a thousand moms like me.
So I lie when people ask, because when my day of work is done I know I can share my feelings with my wonderful Navy Moms.

Comment by Cerabell18 on January 30, 2014 at 10:00pm: If someone didn't make it before the PIR because of a delayed flight would they be able to go to the base still and get in touch with their SR? I'm just thinking worst case...if for some reason I was delayed and didn't get in until Friday afternoon would I be able to go to the base to try to reach him and let him know that I was there?

Comment by Huskies on January 30, 2014 at 3:57pm: Almost 3 weeks of silence ended today with a letter from my son! He sounded great! Actually said the word " fun" ! He said they've been crazy busy! There was a drill inspection Tuesday and Test 2. He said they would be doing firefighting this week and more inspections later in the week. I never thought a half page of printing would make me so happy! With the grace of God we will all be there a week today! Hoo-yah Navy!

I think switching your day of departure re: weather (?) probably is a good idea if that is why you are doing it?
