Morning Iowa MOM and Happy New Year! My son is Ship 03 Div 069! We are from NY. Thrilled to see there is a group for us just in case one mom hears from a child maybe they can share the information with all of us! I have only received the form letter from my son, no phone call yet. I am carrying my phone with me all day today just in case but I have a funny feeling I have a better shot at speaking to him next Sunday. Any phone calls from your SR? I have been looking into flights and rooms but am afraid to book so early as I keep hearing stories about delays in finishing the program due to unforeseen circumstances. Have you booked anything yet? Thanks for starting this group..nice to have touch with someone whose child is with my own.

Happy to hear that you have booked. Have been hesitant about doing the booking but I am thinking that it is best to lock in now as well. I too am going to go with Southwest. I believe they have a rebooking policy w/o a fee which is always a good insurance policy to go with. I am planning to get there on Thursday just to be on the safe side. Naturally, we would be lucky enough to travel to Chicago in the winter! Brrrrrrr....just want to be sure that we don't get snowed out! Once I am there I will be good. From what I read, they should be moving on to A school Sat. Is that your understanding as well? I think we will fly home Sun just to be sure. I would hate to leave before him! I am reading that there is a meet-and-greet on Thursday night. Are you planning on going there as well?

Oh how cool!!! I am not a Facebook person but I definitely will be now!! Is it difficult to migrate to the RTC facebook page? I will get moving to set up Facebook so I can see.....oh, just to get a glimpse would mean the world!!

Know what you mean about no feedback. I write like I am talking to him going through my day. Not sure if it makes him feel like he is part of the day back home or more homesick:/ Hopefully, it will be one of those things he tells me soon. I write faithfully everyday. I'm not sure whose sake that is for, his or mine?? He is my one and only and we are very close so this has been a heck of a transition for me. He lived in SC for about 18 months working but that is so very different from this. At least there we could speak regularly or skype  and visit. This is a life-changing event. Really feel like we have moved into a new phase in our relationship. So very proud of the man he is and is becoming. Overwhelming some times...

I am not on FB...I try to rememeber to go over there and get the pictures that I can and any other info...but often forget...time wise! If you keep me posted I will slap it on up! That's wonderful that you got a pic coming!

Much appreciated!

I am hoping to rent a car as there will be a number of us ( as of now 5 with possibly 2 more). But I think on Friday it would be easier to get to PIR with a shuttle then car as they probably just drop you off and we can enter the building. Sarge is the gentleman that does the meet and greet at the Ramada right? I don't remember reading about the shuttle though. Is there a particular hotel that runs the shuttle? Does it say if there is a cost?

Finally got on Facebook today to try and get set up for the picture posting. Have NO what I am doing! It is an anomaly to me! Do you know who or if I need to "Friend" anyone to get to the picture or where I would go to see it? Goodness, this is as stressful as waiting for a letter or call!!

Celeste - There are two M & G's. Sarge's is at the Sundance Saloon and then the Ramada does one. Ramada has been doing there's for years and Sarge just started his a few months ago. Go to the Main page of this group and under the weaher widget there are clickable links for both M & G's for you to look at and RSVP too.

Ramada has a shuttle (we just had a big discussion on "shuttle" service from hotels - taxi's that charge $3 pp.), I do believe that Ramada is the only one that is free...have to check.

We had 7 Div when I went to PIR and I got in the line of cars and got into PIR fine...we didn't have the prospect of snow though! I probably would have taken a taxi then.

I would really try to hook up with Sarge he is a great guy.

Thank you for all of the really helpful information ladies. It is sooo very beneficial to have had others go through the process and describe it to you. Makes transitioning even easier (hopefully w/o mounds of snow)! I am not a big fan of Facebook but if it gets me a glimpse of my son...well then it is a beautiful thing! No letter yet as well...here is hoping that we both have surprises in our boxes today!

Got my letter yesterday!!! Thank God he is well and getting strong. I can hear the change in his voice already. He's got such determination and his head and soul are all in the right place. Can't stop crying on my end though. Boy, get going good for a while and then something terrific happens like you get a letter telling you he is good and I fall apart again! Not easy being a mom!! THIS is the stuff that should have been in the mom manual!

I am working on finding a place to stay. Hard to make a decision when you don't know the area. There are five of us coming out. Do you know anything about the area? Not sure if we need our own car or not. we By the time we to back and forth from the airport for our flight, then his flight and the base....any ideas???

Hello Everyone...I am so glad to know that this group exists. Was the picture posted? I was not able to find it.
