~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I was thinking the same thing. We had thought about waiting for him to graduate A school so we could go visit and actually spend some time with him.

Sorry Momma Shell, where will he be going to A school, it may be worth it to visit him there...he will have more time to visit and you wouldn't have to worry about his family having to share his time at the PIR

Our situation is difficult to understand, and much too long of a story.  I was just hoping to at least be on base, so there was a chance I would get to see my new sailor son-in-law that day.  If I am not on base, his family will not be willing to "share" him with me...so I will drive all the way to Chicago in hopes of seeing him at the airport.  Bummer.  I know if I was on base HE would come to me, wherever I was.  We share a true bond, but sometimes his family needs to come first...and I can appreciate that, but I'd be lieing if I didn't admit being SAD!

People with extras can also check with your hotel to see if they are showing the Livestreaming somewhere there.  Maybe if there is a big bunch they can use a larger space than their lobby.

Comment by Kelley on February 10, 2014 at 6:43pm

haha Tay, he will be the bald one in black!  we will sit right in front of his division too, so you won't be trying to pick him out of a group of hundreds, just out of his division!

Comment by Kelley on February 10, 2014 at 6:30pm

In January they told us that the Chapel was no longer available for extras to watch, that they were to stay at the hotel and watch there since nothing else would be open and available for them on base..I haven't heard about it being different, you may want to email the RTC for verification, but I would plan on staying at the hotel

Comment by ellen0502 on February 10, 2014 at 6:27pm

The Chapel is available to some in certain situations, from what we understand. For instance, if a family has several kids and the 15 year old and six year old aren't on the list, or an elderly parent not on the list etc. Don't count on being able to watch PIR from the chapel.

It would be better to meet the extras at your hotel, and I know the Navy Lodge shows PIR in their lobby Friday for all to see.

Yes, your sailor will have liberty after PIR. For those leaving GL for school, they can leave almost immediately after PIR, and those staying in GL have to move over to the TSC side before liberty starts for them. They all do have to be back on base seomtime between 7 and 10pm (your sailors will know the time)

You can meet your sailors at the airport, and wait with them at the gate until they leave.

Tay, when he calls with the "I'm a Sailor" call, ask him where he is when they march in formation!  like how many rows back and how many over, then you will know better where to look!!  you can write and ask him to pay attention so he can tell you when he calls  :)

MommaShell:  Those allowed into the Chapel to watch the Livestream (extras) usually have special circumstances.....I know that RTC asked that all extras stay off base unless there is some reason they need to be close by you.  You may want to call RTC and confirm this:   847 688 2405

Your sailor will need to return to his/her ship after PIR to checkout before starting Liberty, and that is only for those flying out.  For those staying in GL for A School, they will move over to that base shortly after PIR is over and you pick them up over there a few hours later for Liberty.

Tay is right....most fly out Saturday but occasionally they fly out Sunday (if they can't get flights on Saturday).  They can be bussed out there from around midnight until the wee hours of the morning.  Yes, you can take ID and meet them there, getting an airlines gate pass so you can wait until the plane departs from the gate.
