OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

hahhahah   omg  i have a pic of my Sailor after PIR with 2 bigmacs on in each hand and a mouth full of fries.... and SMILING  kinda gross  but hes a goofball

HA!  You won't have to worry about him trying to smoke anyway....they are so "brain washed" about what they can/can't do...The Navy now dictates all of what they do and don't do!  My son was a rebel...well, really more of a class clown...the transformation was amazing...he knew exactly what he could and could not do...and there was no way he was going to violate any of it!  They learn very quickly that they are "owned" by the Navy, which will dictate everything they do during their enlistment!  :-)

So neat that he will be able to have dinner at your house....what a wonderful "gift" for him!

diannenep-Smoking in front of Mom is the biggest no no of all! He knows not to try it...ever! And I'm hoping he's more looking forward to dinner at our house than McDonald's anyway!

Safe Travel, Lala!

jax:  After BattleStations, I have a feeling your new sailor will have a handful of candy along with his energy drink!  :-)  Its allowed then!

Comment by diannep on February 6, 2013 at 12:13am

sandi:  No smoking during PIR weekend!  Big no no for the sailors!  So glad you got such a great call from your SR!

Here is a list of the Dos and Don'ts for the sailors after PIR:

Ha barbydalzz, I love the party crasher, thnx Navy dad, you have been a big help to me!!!

Comment by jax on February 5, 2013 at 9:18pm

ha ha sandi, mine says they dangle cupcakes and candy in front of him but he cannot have any, he says it's like prison, I can't have candy! Poor baby no one ever died of cup cake denial, his sweet tooth being denied was the very least of my worries and his biggest complaint LOL

Jax- so glad you got a call last night! Anyone else? We did get a letter today from our son which was written Sunday morning. A few notes: says a lot of the division (101) had wisdom teeth out but he did not, wishes he could watch the Super Bowl but a civilian in the dental office told him who was playing. Also, Monday at 4 am (2/4) was fitness testing. There was a second test today (2/5) covering "aircraft and ship classification, first aid, UCMS articles, and chain of command." I told him in a letter that I heard he needed a plain black backpack for the airport but he wrote that they issued him one. Told his brother that all he wanted was some McDonald's and a pack of smokes. I will try to erase that last part from my memory....
