Congratulations to all those that are going to be graduating tomorrow!
My journey with you has come to an abrupt end! I am very sad to you that He has decided to not turn in his appeal and is coming home! I want to thank you all so much for your prayers and support! You all have been great and I appreciate it so much. God bless you all and thank your sailors for the service and for the sacrifice that they are making!
My bf gave me the gate pass in his message but it's not working when I try to bring it up. That's only needed if you are driving right?
OMG OMG IM HERE IM HERE.... Econo lodge...well... it is what it is..E CONO...the dude said check in was 3 pm (it was almost 2) We said...theres no one here, you gotta have a clean room... we drove 9 hours (really only 7) cant spot me an hour?? HAHAH we're in... anyway.... YAY!!!!
Beth - You are at the Navy Lodge? Have you scoped out the drive yet?
Beth, Yes OHIO is the street where Gate 8, the entry gate for PIR.
I will post the link to the MAP of RTC...it has a blown up pic of Gate 8.
http://www.navyformoms.com/group/pir03022012/forum/topics/maps-of-rtc
There is Metra Parking info on the post...ignore it if it does not pertain to you1
This is the gate you will drop him off at if that is what you will be doing. Your Sailor will know how far it is to walk back to his ship so make sure that you add that time to however early he wants to be back On time...is late in the Navy!
Now, I was allowed to drive back on base to drop my Sailor off...so make sure you have your Gate pass if you want to get him in closer. One night it was at the Chapel parking closer to the NEX and the other two was in the Parking Garage closer to Midway Hall.
Good Luck and safe Travels!
BEARSmom - I know you are probably on your way...I hope you took the laptop and I know you took the cell! I don't know if he will be allowed to keep the laptop on RTC(don't know there PHASE policy and then there is whatever command he is going to next) but he should be allowed to use his cell...yes even possibly on base right away. I remember a Sailor having one when I was there, he explained that he was "on hold" for his "A" school.(my son got extended liberty because of the holiday weekend but was not "in holding". He was housed on a regular ship until he l;eft...no cell phone allowed.)
If he is staying at RTC now he will most likely go to THU - Temporary Holding Unit. This is on Ship 5 (yes, I know it is the same ship as those recruits being seperated from the Navy. THU Sailor are housed very separatley from the discharge recruits).
From what I have read he should have the weekend for Liberty and will follow RTC Liberty policies while he is there. Depending on how long he is there I believe they have Phases for Liberty also...in case some have to stay for quite a while...can't just sit around and not adance!
He will be assigned a job or do various jobs during the work week while he waits to go to his next command.
BEARSmom - I asked Craig what one was. I kind of know but didn't want to flub it up. He gave me a BUPERS link for it ...
Here is his answer to me:
FireTeam - You know, you can't improve on the official rules on strikers. So I will just post it.
http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/milpersman/1000/140...
btw: If you notice in my 1st post, I said "BM rating excluded". That rating is the one the CO can do himself. If you read para 5.i. it says "COs are authorized to designated Seaman (SN) as Boatswain Mate Seaman (BM)". Does that make sense?
I am not going to even try to explain it if Craig won't LOL.
diannep - I found that explanation too...and researched it. What I got was...conused! LOL
I have read a lot but it takes a while to absorb and understand it. There are two kinds of strikers. Designated strikers and Undesignated strikers.
Designated Striker's have rating field they are training for and Undesignated Striker's do not.
Undes will do a short training school (Not an "A" school though just some more basic skills within that group), either Seaman, Airman, there may be engineman too...then head out into the fleet. They have to do a certain amount of time before they can "strike for a rate". There aer a lot of parameters for this...not going into it!
Basically, BEARSmom...you will have to ask your son if they have made him and UNDES striker and if they will keep him in the airman field. Like diannep I do not think it will affect his rate as he earned that for other reasons. But I am not BUPERS! (Buraeu of Navy Personnel) LOL
