For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by RuthL on January 16, 2012 at 9:41am: Salad, yes wear your uniform. We were there at 630 when the gates opened, (I was really excited) and we parked in the parking deck. The walk was not far at all. THere were several other people there in their uniforms. Plus, it made for great pictures. Thank you for your service.

Who knows...with the crazy weather, it may be very warm that day! The walking distance isn't that far...maybe 1/4-1/2 mile. RTC personnel welcome former/current military in uniform at PIR!

Also, I am retired Navy Chief. Is it practical to wear my dress blue uniform to the PIR? Seeing as the distance walking and the temperature.....

But if you stay here you can start reading the discussions up above and ask any questions!

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on January 16, 2012 at 12:36am: I figured they would get snow up there until May lol, heck we can get snow here in NC in April. Had 18 inches on my birthday, April the 7th a few years ago lol. You could see the spring flowers popping up through the snow. It sure did melt a lot quicker in April though.

As far as getting married while up there he will have to handle all that himself. They have to get permission and it isn't easy to get. Plus it is hard to get it done because the leave so quickly after PIR, there's not enough time to get a license and then wait the required time. I have heard of only one or two who got married right after bootcamp while in GL and I think both of them were staying in GL for A-school but I'm not sure. I do know a lot of them get married during A-school. My daughter did.

Comment by ColoradoMom Nuke ET on January 16, 2012 at 12:33am: @lesliet - As best I can tell from reading on this site, form letters with this PIR date started showing up on 1/12. Mine was postmarked 1/10. My SR arrived the week before yours and was finishing up P-Days (processing) as your SR was arriving.

If I had to guess, you may find that your SR is in different PIR. But you never know. Check out the Boot Camp Group and see what others with SRs arriving the same day as yours are saying.
