I made mine at the Candlewood Suites in Waukegan.  The comments said they had a shuttle, too.  I made it for 3 nights since I don't know what liberty he will have.  Easy to cancel the extra nights later.

Residence has a free hot buffet breakfast in the lobby each day.

Comment by diannep on January 14, 2012 at 12:02am

jackie:  The shuttles are actually a taxi service that operates as shuttles that morning ($3/pp each way but I believe Ramada's is free).  Springhill Suites and Residence Inn Waukegan (both close to Sarge's MeetNGreet) are very nice hotels and also have the PIR shuttles.  We stayed at Residence and really liked it.  They have larger suites and studios also.  Springhill is newer and nice as well.  Just throwing in my 2 cents worth!  :-)  Oh, and Residence is pet friendly!

I saw shadesofpurple made motel reservations. Anybody else? I am thinking about the Ramada or Courtyard - they both have shuttles to the base.

@jackieq-glad you asked, I was wondering about the meet and greets also.  How do we choose? @Jamie SHIP02 Div 915 7-where are you from?  How old is your daughter?  I got my letter today also-no personal additions, but it is good to know PIR.

Comment by diannep on January 13, 2012 at 11:49pm

Sarge's is relatively new and lots of fun, I hear.  Ramada has been doing theirs for a long time.  Sarge is retired military who has lived in the area for 30 yrs so he has lots of info...and a taxi service for those needing transportation for the weekend.  Some try to go to both...Sarge's is from 5-10 pm, Ramada's from 6-8.  They aren't too far apart.

Comment by jackiequeen/ship09div076 on January 13, 2012 at 11:45pm

Just read about the meet and greets. Its a tough call which one to attend. Do people attend both? Is one more popular than the other?

Ruth:  Thanks for posting such encouragement to the ladies on here!  I know they appreciate it!

ColoradoMom:  Just remember, if thick letters are received, they usually have to open them in front of the RDCs.  So probably best to only put as many letters in one envelope to keep it from being thick.  They actually love receiving mail, so considered mailing them separately (if you haven't mailed them yet) so he will have lots!
