Congrats, all 3/2 PIR loved ones!!!!! I'm thrilled to have been a part of your journey. Don't forget to join groups associated with your Sailor's A-school, and down the road, there are ship groups!

I guess it's time to change this to an Alumi group. Thanks to everyone who encouraged me along the way. Special thanks to shades for helping me find my son at the giant airport. Thanks for all the information shared here. My son told me it was like you knew what I was doing THAT day in your letters. It was bc of this site. I suppose I'll move to the Nuke school group. Can we start a nuke school group of 3/02/12 PIR? There should be 12 moms. Such a great, emotion filled, weekend and for that matter, nine weeks. Goodbye everyone!

I was not expecting the flood of emotions when he called to tell me he was in South Carolina.  Really.  Somehow it all felt so. . . I don't know. . . final.  Bootcamp was hard in it's own way, but there was PIR to look forward to.  Somehow, all of a sudden, it all felt really. . . REAL. . . to me.  He's leaving home and starting his own life.  Just what I've raised him to do.  Just what he was struggling with before the Navy.  But, WOW, he's doing it.  My first has left the nest!
I was just unprepared to hear his voice one more time and react the way I did.

Wow, ColoradoMom.  Read this last post with anxiety!  Wheee!  So glad that it all worked out, even though he lost some liberty.  Glitches...so sad when they interfere with liberty, but glad it all worked out.

Hope many are enjoying Saturday airport visits right now and that others are having weekend visits in GL.  Enjoy!

ColoradoMom, so glad it turned out okay but I agree that should have been caught a long time agon.

So happy for all of you. I hope you guys are at the airports now spending more time with your Sailors :-)

What a day!

While my husband chose to come later (with his parents), my mom and I packed a breakfast and coffee and headed over to gate 8 about 5:30 am.  We would have been the first car in line had we decided to wait at the gate in our car.  Instead, we parked in the train station and just enjoyed some time together before we walked in the gate.  They actually opened the gate by about 6:15am.

We had a slight scare when we finally got to talk to Sailor.  They called liberty and I made it to the floor to find my Sailor.  He gave me a great big hug (with tears in his eyes) and then said he had bad news.  He was being sent to the THU on medical hold.  He had no idea why but had to go NOW and take care of things and move.  Would we please meet him in an hour (with us knowing full well he would probably be more than an hour).  Hubby went back to the hotel with his parents and I wandered around and around and around in the rain and cold till he finally called - all the while trying not to think the worst.  It took about 2.5 hours, but in the end, all is well.  A signature was missing on his medical info (why is this not discovered until right before PIR?????).  So, our afternoon was cut a little short, but had a great time anyway.
