miamore23 - If he goes with Ceremonial Guard the below may no longer apply after BC. I am not sure...
miamore23 - Okay. I am thinking since he is Undesignated then he may be speaking of the Ceremonial Guard. Write/talk with him and see. I hope he will let you know soon. If he does and you have questions let me know and I will get my info to you.
Undesignated Seaman are also known as S-PACT- Surface/Seaman PACT.
Here is the info on PACT:
PACT
PACT stands for - Professional Apprenticeship Career Tracks.
If your SR is an Undesignated Sailor in the PACT program then they are either S-PACT, A-PACT or E-PACT.
A-PACT - Aviation/Airman Professional Apprentice Track
E-PACT - Engineering/Fireman Professional Apprentice Track
S-PACT - Surface/Seaman Professional Apprentice Track
ALL of the personnel in the Navy are Sailors. Within it there are Career Fields. Seamen, Airmen, Firemen and Constructionmen (Seabees).
Each Field has many Ratings within it.
[Example - Our son is a Construstionman (Seabee) CN (E-3 Pay grade)and his Rating is Builder - BU.]
PACT Sailors go into the Navy without a designated Rating (Occupational Specialty) BUT they are assigned a Field (Seabees do not have Undesignated Sailors).
After BC they will go for a training course in fundamental skills for that Field and usually will perform duties within that Field at their first duty station.
This is never guaranteed as the "needs of the Navy" always come first. (That actually applies to ALL Sailors...if it needs to get done then it needs to get done :-)). All will be expected to scrub a toilet, shine some brass etc. at some point.
Thy may have the opportunity to "strike" (apply) for a rating at some point. I do not know the time frame, requirements or ease of doing so. I will provide some links that you can read though.
I believe the highest pay grade they can reach is E-3.
S-PACT and E-PACT train at Great Lakes after BC and A-PACT train in Pensacola, Fl after BC.

Letter arrived today, she is in ship 11 div 106
FireTeamLeaderWife - Thank you for some clarification. The confusing part is my husband is an Undesignated Seaman last I heard. So I don't know if that is his rank now or if this something for basic only. I guess I will have to wait to talk to him at this point or a letter. Lol. But thank you for some clarification.
CatMom: We got up in lower 80s today, and humidity is starting to come back....but still not hot like summer! Hoping for more cool weather again soon....had it for about 3 days and it was delightful!
Good Evening!
If it is the Honor Guard during BC then the post I added below explains it.
If he is an Undesignated Sailor (just means he does not have a Rating to train for after BC) then he may mean the Ceremonial Guard job after PIR.
I have info on that.
miamore23 - Division 917 is made up of Ship Staff/Honor Guard. He may have said Ceremonial Squad?
Sometimes they use different terms than the "official one". For instance we call it PIR and your Recruits will not know what that is...they call it Graduation. Well, they know what PIR is they just don't refer to Graduation as PIR.
Here are the Ship Staff/ honor Guard duties:
Ship Staff is in charge on PIR day. They greet and welcome the Officers and their distinguished guests as Sideboys. They play the role of "Body Snatcher" walking up and down the rows of Sailors, watching for and sometimes catching any Sailor about to or going down. (They lock their knees sometimes and pass out.) They help the Navy Corpsmen in the back room. They guard doors and perform a myriad of tasks behind the scenes and in front, such as directing people and helping those who require a wheelchair. It is their job to help make sure all goes smoothly. The Honor Guard Drill Team also does a rifle performance at the beginning of the ceremony. Since those in Ship Staff/Honor Guard have duties to perform before and during PIR, they do not march in through the doors when the other divisions march in on the day of PIR.
If that is not it then Ceremonial Squad may be something else within it as well. For some reason it is sparking a memory for me. I will rack my little brain :-)
Can someone explain what the ceremony squad is? My husband called on Sunday and only had a few min left to explain what was going on. I have been trying to find stuff, but cant find anything online about it? He is ship 02 div 917.
Good afternoon, diannep!!
Sunny (70's) and windy here! How about you??
