OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Just wanted to let you all know that those of you who haven't had calls, my heart breaks for you.  I know that I was freaking when others posted that they had their boxes already, were getting their letters and were now able to write to their kids.  I was going crazy without those things.  But then I looked to this site and saw that it took up to a week to get the box and mine came exactly as posted.  That it took up to 10 days to get the letter, and mine came exactly as posted (yesterday).  I know that I feel blessed to have been one of the few to get a call and talk to my son, but know that I just got off the phone with a navy mom who said that she had to wait 5 weeks before her first call and that was just last year.  I know that doesn't help to hear that now, once you have seen us posting our excitement.  For that I am sorry.  I never meant to cause you pain. I am sure none of us did.   We are in this together (that is what this group is for...right?), & I am sending my hugs your way as I know how it was having no info on how he was holding up, etc. Just think....less than 7 weeks to go and then we will all be celebrating (fingers crossed) together watching our kids in uniform standing Navy Proud!
