~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Your calls will come from 847, pay phone and sometimes Gov't.

What does the caller ID look like for a phone call from RTC? I find myself answering a lot of telemarketer phone calls hoping it's my son.

Okay, so if you are able to change tickets on SW, what are the 3 different rates for? I am getting back on the laptop and start clicking.

Naverry and MomofLP - my son is also ship 02 div 918. That makes 5 of us moms so far unless I missed counted. OneProudmama is one of them.

Dittersmom:  Check the plane fares into Milwaukee also---.  45 min drive to GL...sometimes cheaper.  With Southwest, there is no change fee...2 bags check for free.  United, there is a change fee/luggage fee.  You cannot wait to see for sure that your SR is graduating before purchasing tickets....since they don't know for sure until PIR week.  So you must go ahead and book prior to that.  I have heard that the lowest airline rates are when you go ahead and book your reservation on Tuesdays before 3 pm...not the time you fly, but just booking your ticket)

My suggestion?  Book on Southwest just in case your SR's date changes.  Since you have a little time here, you may want to check their special fares...keep a watch on those.  Remember, Southwest flies into both Midway and Milwaukee.  Also, if your sailor will be remaining in GL for A School, try to book your return late Sunday or even Monday since you will have Daytime Liberty through the weekend with your sailor.  If your sailor will be flying out to A School, most likely that will be on Saturday (where you can meet and wait at the airport with him/her)...but sometimes it isn't until Sunday.  So again, we suggest you book a return on Sunday if possible so you don't miss any time with your sailor.

On the car, it is always more economical to get a good rate on a rental car rather than using the shuttles.  Sarge runs a shuttle to/from the airports, but it can be pricey unless you share with other families here.  His PIR shuttle rate is $3/pp each way...same as the local taxi PIR rate.  So no issues there.  But if you want him to shuttle you around town after PIR, that can add up.  So if I were you, be checking car rates.  I have heard from others that when they booked on Southwest, they received a code for a special car rental rate (in the past).  So keep your options open!

Dittersmom I understand We have 3 flying so if refundable is double sometimes triple ...it's very expensive So really not sure what to do. When is it for sure my SR will walk at PIR a week before? Also read on here that
Lots of moms have used shuttles they say run 4$ per person each trip instead of renting a car. Not sure what we will do yet

Okay, i have been looking for flights. I am coming from oregon and can fly my husband snd myself for $604 round trip on United (we would have one checked bag with that), and it flys into O'Hara. Or, we can do SouthWest for $752 round trip and it flys into Midway. The problem I am having iswhat if there is a change in the PIR date. To buy changeable tickets it is more than double. I was thinking about taking the chance that everything goes well and if need be buy different tickets if there was a change. What are others doing? Any suggestions? I think we are renting a car. Hate to drive there, but if we must, then so beit.

Hello everyone. My son is in div 808. It's nice to hear that there are 2 800 divisions this time. Maybe they will go to San Diego sooner.
