OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Good Morning!

This PIR group is going into to Training Week 4 and that is when things get very busy for them.  Contact may be more scarce, but the good news is that the wonderful I'm a Sailor calls can start in the next 2.5 weeks for some divisions!

Comment by CatMom509 on February 23, 2014 at 4:52am

Linda,

At least it will only be for a few weeks (compared to the grand scheme of life) and you will be back to better contact during A school.  Remember, this is also training you all for when our Sailors are on deployment and we can't have regular contact with them~~

That's great for you, Jennifer!!  Much funner with family and you can make some stops!  Make sure to let your SR know the correct full names that should be on the access list and not just Aunt _________ and Grandpa __________!

Catmom,
You are right. Seemed like we had lots of calls and mail before this week. I do not have the patience of Job.

I feel like all my PIR plans are coming together....I decided to scrap my amtrak plan and roadtrip with my sister and we'll meet my dad on the way and made hotel reservations for all of us.  I was worried about being alone while I was there but glad I have family to support me and support my husband for his graduation.  I also ordered a Navy Challenge Coin (thanks for the suggestion) and noticed it came with information about the ship he is on.  Now I can surprise him with information I know about the Navy!

MOmom5, you're in MO, me too, and yes the weather is amazing today too bad our SRs aren't here to enjoy it with us but we will see them in less than 4 weeks (so excited)

Hello All,

I think she ran out of stamps. She had requested more a week ago but they probably didn't get to her in time.
Comment by diannep on February 22, 2014 at 11:18am

...and I agree with CatMom.  Mail was delayed a day this week because of the holiday. Hope there is something special in your mailboxes today for those who have not received letters yet!
