Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I agree with CatMom. Bootcamp is a real emotional journey for them, and for you! To know that things were probably much better by the time you received the letter hopefully will make you feel a little better! They are growing up and learning to live more independently....in addition to learning compliance in the Navy!

Ninjamom: My husband is in 919 so he has not gotten the opportunity to meet very many people in the other divisions but I did tell him that I met you on this forum and that there is another SR who speaks French/Russian. His mother was born in Ghana and his Father was born in Togo and my husband is from France (his family now lives in Switzerland) so he always spoke 3 languages at home so yes he does have an interesting accent.

Happy Valentine's Day!!! It's been a great one - I received 4 letters - one addressed to me, one to my younger son, and two to "the family". All positive. I couldn't have asked for more...well, maybe just a phone call tomorrow? Ok that might be asking a bit much. Good Night.

I hope your husband finds my son so they can practice their languages. What in the world is Ewe? Actually, I looked it up. I bet he has a beautiful accent. My son is in the 111 and is his section's leader.

You're right about the language ability. He certainly didn't get it from me. I've tried to learn many and nothing sticks!

Hi girls!!! just received a letter from my son yesterday, and I was devastated...He feels so tired and he told me they are freezing over there...told him to keep it up and be strong...They will get rid of those trainings pretty soon...God bless them all!!!

Lala - I will be ordering some of those ribbons. They look beautiful. We'll wear them to the meet and greet and of course the PIR.
NickSmom - I'm so sorry to hear this. I'll inquire in the next letter to my SR, and if he knows him pass the word that you'd like to hear from him.
NinjaMom - That's really impressive! Some people have an amazing ability to learn a second language, and in your husband's case several - I'm not one of them and am always impressed with those who are.

NinjaMom: My husband's first language is French, second is Ewe, third is Cabiay (I think I spelled this wrong), fourth English, fifth Russian and he was learning Portuguese. He picks it up quickly and I know he would love to connect with another person as interested in language as him so I hope he is able to connect with your son and maybe they can practice language skills.
