Hello, All!!
I just back from Chicago late last night. It was such a fantastic experience. I will relate the pertinent details:
We stayed at the Residence Inn, which I very highly recommend. The rooms were clean and lovely, staff was helpful, free full breakfast, and free dinner thursday night for meet n greet. We also went to Sarges Meet N Greet, and it was lovely to see so many families we'd been talking to. Sarge also does an informative powerpoint.
We took a 7am shuttle and had we gone any later there'd be no seats in a decent area, and we were a small group, so getting there early was a big deal! The ceremony was great. I thought I would weep my little eyeballs out, but I didn't cry once. Strangely, as they entered, I felt like I was going to throw up, hahaha. I guess my nerves were really shot that day.
Hands down the best moment was when Liberty was announced and you see all the sailors hoot and holler and high five each other. It was SO exciting!
We went to a local place to eat- didn't try to take in any sights. He seemed more content to just be with us and I really wanted to focus on him, not seeing or experiencing anything else. I was really struck by the camaraderie. He would see some of his fellow sailors out and they were so happy to see each other. So much love there. :)
I have a few photos here:
