I missed another call today! At least this time I was at work, and not just without my phone. I missed two calls and he left a voicemail saying he was going to call his mom. I got to my phone like two minutes after that, so I left it with my manager so they could for sure answer it. By the time he was done talking to his mom and I got to my phone, he only had long enough to say "Ahh I've got to go now." and I just had enough time to say love you bye. Hopefully they keep doing well and getting phone calls! Glad to see you got to talk to your son MichaelC'smom!

Just got a 20 min call from Michael!  He sounded great,  They came in second on Marlinspike!!  They are in the running for Hall of Fame Div!!!!  Said to expect more calls, if they continue to do good!!  Battlestation is on 6-5!!!  They have 1 more PFA to do, and more testing on other things.  I am walking on cloud 9 right now!  Hope every gets call soon!!  Go 11/109!!!!

Some of the bigger bases have a huge NEX, it is like going to the mall, lots of different stores and a food court, gift shops. It is awesome. The one we went to in VA Beach was GREAT. And no taxes at the NEX. Just make sure you compare prices before making the purchase. Sometimes you can get a better price at other places like Best Buy even with having to pay the tax.

Hi zStratMom- I never thought that NEX would have large ticket items for sale.  We will have to check it out.  We were thinking about Best Buy since we buy a lot there here in Oregon.  I am sure there is sales tax in IL but I want him to pick out what he wants.  (No sales tax in Oregon).  Glad to know that it would be safe and he can lock it up.  Thanks again for your help.

Hi, rmwjcpa - your Sailor can get the laptop! : ) My son had a laptop at A-school at Great Lakes (and my second son has his laptop at A-school right now in P-cola). They can lock them up at the barracks. And, now, here are a couple of thoughts for purchasing, if you don't plan to bring one with you. They do have electronics at the NEX, you can check there after PIR. Then check out local stores like a Best Buy. Happy Shopping!

Comment by diannep on March 10, 2012 at 3:05pm

also, denise, don't know about the in and out burger, but she probably will be able to get that snickers after she completes BattleStations !  They get to "load up" on energy drinks and candy bars the day they finish that (need it for energy since they will have been up for about 38 hours---give or take---by the time they "hit their racks" --2 hrs earlier on day they complete BattleStations).

Comment by diannep on March 10, 2012 at 3:00pm

denise:  So glad that you got the call and the letters and are realizing the value of this site!  It continues during A School and in the fleet, by the way.  The members of N4Moms are wonderful.  When my son got to his first duty station, I needed to "reach out" for info...wonderful ladies reached right back!

Comment by rmwjcpa on March 10, 2012 at 2:59pm

zStratMom- Thanks for all the great info.  Our SR will be staying in GL for A school.  He menitoned he wanted to buy a laptop after PIR.  Our question is would there be any chance he could not have it if we purchased one there in Chicago?  (We do not want to have to fly home with it). Also, how does he lock it up for theft protection (or is this even a concern)? Thanks!
