OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I've received so much info from N4M that my SR joked before he left that I knew more than he did about what to expect. No plans to leave this group, just enjoy the ease of FB.

I can't agree with CatMom more....stay on here too in addition to FB!  By combining the two groups, we hope to get all of the info right!  I am the one here who keeps up with the Battlestations dates....and in the past, there have been wrong ones circulating on FB....if someone had just checked here, I could have told them no way their SR was going through on the date they thought!  Let's put our "2 heads together' and get the best info possible to you all!

Good Morning!

jseven:  So great that you have the Navy connections for the wisdom!

Thanks CatMom509. My husband and I were former Navy Brats... Tons of veterans like my dad... that I call my calabash uncles/aunties and friends from high school ( I attended Radford High school in Hawaii- alumni of NJROTC for 4 years) whom are still active duty in the Navy have been giving me and my husband moral support and wisdom. In the Navy... Family is everything no matter what.

Knowledge is certainly key!!  Be aware that sometimes wrong advice is given on a FB group, for example, being able to send gum/candy to your SRs, which is incorrect and will get them in trouble~~ No treats or care packages whatsoever are allowed in Boot Camp.

If you do join a FB group, please stay on here also as not everyone joins both.  Everyone wants to know when calls are coming in from divisions, so they can watch out for them. You can also double check your info here~  :)
