N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

diannep, Thank you.  I'm cancelling the Ramada and will book elsewhere.

Comment by TJ Proudnavymom on March 9, 2015 at 2:45pm

I'll add this as well, Sheilagirl. You say "she's not a runner" and I'm sure you've heard her say that as well. One thing I see in physical fitness is that our biggest hurdle is in our own head. If we convince ourself we can't do it, then we can't. As Abe Linclon said "whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right". Encourage her to believe that she CAN do it. I've seen many people run distances/times/etc that they thought they couldn't do. Once you get the mind out of the way, it's amazing what the body can do.

YES! Please don't miss diannep's posts in amongst my rather long-winded ones! :-D

Sheilagirl - As was stated they have only done their first PFA. The second one will be coming up soon here (during Training week 4).

The first one gives the Instructors an idea where a Recruit/Division are at physically. The second one is used to reevaluate and the scores are also used towards possibly earning the PT Flag for the Division. The last one (taken in Training Week 6) is the most important. This one everyone must pass - even if they have already had a passing run in the previous two. They have to pass this one in order to go on to BST-21.

She's got time to get her run time improved.

My son went through all of BC sick (until the very last week1) he either had pneumonia or was very close to it and he got it done!

The RDC's want to see them become Sailors and will work towards that goal with them.

Great advice TJ Proudnukemom , Thanks ;-)!

Sheila:  Please see my message below to Nina about the Ramada.

Keep the faith!  Your daughter still has time to pass.  The most important one to pass, which all must do no matter what they did on the first two (total of three), is that final one.  They cannot do BattleStations and become sailors if they do not pass the 3rd one.   Hopefully she will start feeling better and get some extra help for her run.

Okay, another Jiminy Cricket moment...PLEASE read the reviews for the Ramada on Tripadviser. It is not in a good area of town and it is an old hotel.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on March 9, 2015 at 2:02pm

There is a (or used to be, not sure if it is still there) a Meet and Greet at the Ramada. In fact, that's all we had for awhile...it's the one I went to in 2011.

Flanagan's was one of the original places(or that's what they claim) but not sure how much they do it anymore either.

Now, Sarges is the one that most Families go to. People can only find out about them from websites like this one, FB and maybe a few other Navy BC related websites. I believe some of the Hotels may tell Folks but that could be hit and miss.

I used to post info about all three and let folks pick. I don't anymore as I feel it's confusing and I cannot promote stuff that I am not "all in" for. In good conscience, I have to say from the reports that Sarge and his dedication to making a wonderful experience for the Families is the best one.

Here is the link to his M & G EVENT for info and to RSVP too. The RSVP is just so he can get sort of a head count...all are welcome and they plan for extras that find out about it when they arrive at GL. Many Folks don't do social media and don't know anything about this site (Tell 'em please!-This site was meant to carry you all through your Sailors career!)

Nina:  Please check TripAdvisor.com for reviews on the Ramada.  It may influence you as far as staying there.

There are many hotels near Sarge's MeetandGreet that are much better.  Springhill Suites, Courtyard, Residence Inn, and Holiday Inn Express.  Springhill is the closest to Sarge's MeetandGreet but all of these are close.  Ramada is not that close, but only about 2-3 miles away.  Be sure to call these hotels directly and ask for the Navy Grad discount.

Sheilagirl, first I would say that your worry won't help you, or her. Stay strong for her and let each day take care of itself. You can encourage her by reminding her that she's passed everything else and she has the ability to do this too.

I understand your concern but I would say continue to encourage her and try to keep the focus on her, not your tickets, plans etc. I'm sure she has her share of worry about it as well. They wouldn't have sent her if they didn't think she could get her time down.

Of course being sick doesn't help. If it's "just" respiratory she should be able to continue to run through it. If she's nauseous then it might be harder.

I'll be praying for her. I don't need to know her name, because God does  :)
