~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I have a question. I have a 13 year old that may come to graduation with us, but not going to the ceremony with us. Does anyone know if there Is something that is kid friendly they offer for kids while we are at the graduation?

Just booked rooms at the SpringHill Suites. Got a heads up from another Navy Mom whose son graduated in 2012. They have a living room so we can all hang out with a couch, fridge, desk etc. Her son loved this and I'm sure mine will too. They have a Navy Graduation Rate $99/ night. It is about a 10 min drive to the base. Thought I would share this with you all

For those reserving rooms at other local hotels, be sure to call the hotel directly and ask for the Navy Grad rate which will save you some money.  The hotels that have received good reviews on here include:

Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Residence Inn....all close together (about 4-5 miles from RTC), with shuttle service available to PIR (through either Sarge's service or book at the hotel for the local service...same price).   They are also very close to Sarge's MeetandGreet, held for you all the night before PIR.

alwsmft:  Because of what ellen shared below, we always recommend staying at Navy Lodge, especially if your sailor will be flying out for A School since that probably will happen the day after PIR.  Plus, the sailors have been on a base for a L O N G time....so they are ready to see the civilian world for awhile.   Navy Lodge is a great option for all since the price is right, it is close, the staff is friendly, and you have all you need there!  You are also given a NEX pass to shop with w/out your sailor having to be present in a smaller NEX nearby.

Comment by ellen0502 on February 23, 2014 at 2:21pm

alwsmft, The Navy Gateway Inn and Suites is on the TSC base and you can stay there PIR weekend. If someone in your party does not have a military/Dod ID, you have to go through a background check and get "approved" in order to stay on base. and even then you are limited to where you can go on the base without your sailor. Your SR is the one who "sponsors" you to stay on base.

Your sailor will also have to apply for a special permission chit after PIR, to visit at the hotel (or even enter the hotel), it can be given, denied and taken away. There is no shuttle to PIR, and you cannot walk to PIR, as they are separate bases.

The Navy Lodge is about a mile from base, and is located in family housing. You can stay there, and your sailor can visit without any special permission. The reservation needs to be in you SR/sailors name, and when you call you need to let them know you are coming for graduation.

vrybsymom, barffy222, and mitchsmom: loved hearing that all your SRs were poditive and that 14/136 was a good group. :)

Is staying on base an option for the PIR or do we have to stay in a local hotel? Anyone know? If so, how do we go about reserving it? Thanks!

Haven, t got real call yet. I see others in 14/136 have... If they only get one call, he may have called his Dad instead. I did get to o speak to him briefly Friday because they were working on his security clearances (for CTR) and needed family full names. It was a short call, but he sounded really good and said it was.  :)
