N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

barf222 Happy Birthday and glad your son was able to call.

We're from Michigan almost the same weather. Usually by mid April the weather will be better and a good chance of no snow. If you do encounter snow, do not panic, leave plenty of room between you and the car in front and do not slam on your brakes.

Glad to join this group! Got our letter today - Ship 09 Div 140.

Ruth:  SO sorry he is having such a hard time, but this early on, many are.  On the moleskin, you can slip a couple into a letter where they can't be detected....so make sure they don't make the letters thick or he has to open in front of the RDCs.  Better to send extras in a few extra letters.

No, the RDCs do not read their mail.  But....if a letter looks unusual, is thick, etc...they have to open it in front of their RDCs.  That is why all need to mail in white envelopes, no extra writing on the outside, no stickers, etc....so that letters are under the radar.

I hope that the next contact from him is better!  It really does get better!  Also, he will meet with a Classifier eventually to pick another Navy job.  SO very sorry that he will not be able to do the one he wanted, but this happens....and many times, the SR ends up loving the new job.  So hoping all will work out!

dia:  Divisions take a while to come together.  Remember, you have men/women of all ages, all backgrounds, all different life experiences, etc trying to come together and work as a team.  That is not easy to do but the RDCs get through to them, eventually.  It may take alot of IT (Intensive Training) which is used as punishment....but look at IT this way...they will be in phenomenal shape by PIR!  :-)  My son's division did their share of IT when he was there....once, because of one SR's bad decision and in that case, the RDCs made it sting harder on that SR by not allowing HIM to do the IT with the division....he had to sit and watch them do bear crawls, etc for almost 2 hours because of something he did....he was in tears, as you can imagine, wanting to be the one to take the punishment, not his shipmates---my son felt bad for him.  But the RDCs know what they are doing and you will see that at PIR!  :-)

dia,

All the groups start out this way.  They are not used to the Navy's way, but they will learn and start to come together about 1/2 way through.  The ones that continue to don't listen can be "asmoed" or set back to another group.  Just continue your encouragement to him.  It will be up and down for each of the SRs~~

RuthB13,

I'm just glad he is still there and not coming home!  There will be something there where he is meant to be.  He will still be a Sailor~~  HUGS to you both!!
