OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Thanks Craig , the Ship info was very interesting

Ship 03 I believe is the USS Hopper.

Have not heard about the gals not getting haircuts yet. Maybe she will write that in her real letter to us. Don't know when the trivia question is, hope later on in the day because I work in the mornings.

Kitchenkimmi, my son did the same thing. Haha made me laugh. My husband was worried he didn't know our full names. I do plan to write and let him know to correct. Especially the spelling of my parents names. Oh how I miss him.

What time on Tuesday is the trivia question posted?

Comment by Craig on February 22, 2014 at 5:55am

I have a question for those that have female sailors.
The Navy is about to allow those females NOT to get their haircut in boot camp.  Just curious, are the females in this PIR group still getting haircuts in boot camp?

Hi Ladies...
I know you really want to see where your sailors are staying.  I have wrote about some of the ships:

Oops!!  Forgot to let you gals know to be aware of "847", "Pay Phone", "Government" or any other unfamiliar items coming up on your cell phones this weekend because it could be your SR calling!!  If it is a sales call, just politely tell them "No, thank you!"

Keep your cell phones with you at all times because they can call during the week for info or a special reward call too.  Upstairs, downstairs, inside the house, in the bathroom, outside to get the mail, if you are out and about and go somewhere loud, put your phone on "vibrate."

Hope you all get contact, but if some don't, your SR might be on "watch."

Thank you Ellen0502. I'm just thrilled to get "the letter".
Comment by ellen0502 on February 22, 2014 at 12:46am

Kitchen Kimmi, No worries, he will have the opportunity to "fix" the list when he submits the final list about two weeks before PIR. Do let him know how y'alls names read on your IDs, as they will need to be the same.

Mitch's Mom, The Tuesday Trivia is done by the RTC on their FB page. Here is the link.

Oh, and Mitch's Mom, the trivia question is posted on Tuesdays on Facebook on the U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command page. The winner gets a picture of their recruit's division posted. The winner is the first person to answer the question correctly.
