Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Dana,
Whatever you bring to the airport needs to be able to be put into their Navy issued black backpack, probably their cell phone, cell phone charger, laptop, ac adapter, comfy underwear, maybe a couple of casual shirts, some favorite snacks. They will have their humongous 50 lb seabag, and garment bag of their uniforms in addition to this black backpack, so they can't handle one more bag! Bring a selection to the hotel to let your SR choose. Also, bring a set of clothes for your SR to relax in your hotel room in after their long, private shower~~

Since my son doesn't move into A school barracks until Monday I don't know what I can do with any extra belongings we could ferry up to him and hand over after PIR. any info would be welcome!

okay I need some help..
I was told you can take a bag of their personal clothing to the USO at the airport and they can take it with them to A school is this correct?? Or carry on Only??
When my other son went in he stayed at Great Lakes, so I could leave is personal bag with him there.

So sweet, Lala. I'm melting from cuteness overload. @ Vrybzmom, lol. @catMom509, that is a great idea to have a pamphlet or something at MEPS. Especially for the kids who's parents aren't so supportive, maybe this is a good tool to give them and have them give to parents As a means of "hey, there's a huge support network out there"

I wonder if our current Navy Admin would like to try to get our site promoted more at the recruitment or MEPS level? Maybe a one page pamphlet that is given out at the same time as the S.T.A.R.T. Guide to new recruits?
