OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I had to laugh today. My husband said to me that the navy moms site is more informed than the internet -- he called it the mom-ernet! It's true! We are an informed lot!

Any calls today, Moms?

You are welcome, CatMomma.  I have to thank one of our Navy Dads who alerted us to this a few months ago when his sailor graduated.

Remember, ladies, sometimes the recruiters may share this site with the SRs, but for one reason or another, they may elect not to share it with family members.  Or....they may just forget!  To this day, I still don't know if my son had received it from his recruiter (my son lived in another city) or if he just never gave it to me.

Kimba & catmom your welcome its one of those looking back and make u laugh stories:) I wish the recruiters would share this site. It would be nice to have a little print out for SRs to give to thier families. Or even on the form letter or at meps when red cross gives the contact info, if they could mention it. I know if I hadnt found this I would be lost! I have made good friends got priceless info and have support from ppl who get it. I dont know where or what condition I would be in emotionally right now if I had to go thru this on my own. ♥♥♥ N4M!!

diannep - Thanks for the info about the Hilton at O'Hare.  I would never have known about that.

Shannon,

So glad you found us!!  Thanks to that DMV examiner for sharing what his wife did.  Wish many more moms would find us too.  Only 10% of the total SRs families find us and get the information and encouragement that is given here~~

We were started by the Navy, but not sure why the recruiters don't promote this site~~

Hi everyone, getting down to the wire and so excited for PIR !  Hoping to get a call this weekend, anyone know what the chances are looking like for that? I rsvp for Sarges meet & greet, it will be great to meet everyone in person!  What is the scarf color? anyone hear how the confidence chamber went? How many flags does DIV 139 have?  Thanks all, appreciate any nugget of news.  I want to say something my SR did that we are so proud of, but not sure if that is against protocol since it might single him out!  So proud of him and all our SR's!
