For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Just a reminder that it is not too early to be making hotel reservations---some hotels book up more quickly than others. There is no penalty if you book directly with the hotel...you can cancel up to the day before/day of arrival. Hotels recommended by others in previous PIR groups are: Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Residence Inn...all in the Waukegan/Gurnee area....close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR for all of you. About 4-5 miles to GL....near a big Walmart center, with restaurants, etc....We stayed at Residence and enjoyed it very much.
For flights, checkout Southwest Airlines into either Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL) or Milwaukee WI (45 min to GL). They have no change fee in case your SR is delayed in training for any reason, and 2 bags check for free. Be sure to check out any one-way specials they are offering and see if you can save money there.

We are having our St Patrick's day parade in our town today and it's only 23 degrees out there. So tired of cold and snow. We are expecting another 8 inches Sunday into Monday. What a drag. We made our reservations for PIR and I keep trying to tell myself that April is right around the corner. Sometimes it works. We will be driving out and bringing my 90 year old mother who would not miss it for the world.

Got my first letter from my son. He is a leader in his division Ship 14 Div 136. So excited to hear from him. Proud that he is stepping up as a leader too. Sounds like the weather is CRAZY cold out there.

Got my first letter! My son sounds great. They are study a lot. He is a Petty Officer leading a study group. Other than missing family it seems like he is adjusting quickly. What a relief!
