OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Arrived at the Navy Lodge GL yesterday afternoon. Leaving Alabama 80 degree weather for 40 degree windy GL weather is rather shocking.. but seeing our sailor in a matter of hours now makes it well worth it. The Navy Lodge is nice, basic but the staff...omg, cannot find nicer, more pleasant people. Will do some scoping of the territory today, etc. Hope to see some of you at the Lodge or Sarges tonight. Safe travels to all and congrats to all the newest sailors and their families/loved ones..

Thanks Ellen!  I tried to change my flight so I could just fly out the same time as him so I'm not waiting around for six hours with a toddler...would cost me as much as I paid for the ticket lol!  I'll attempt to stand-by an earlier flight but they're pretty much all packed at this point.  The downside of living in a big city and trying to fly home on a Saturday, oh well!  I figured I would just go ahead and check in for my flight early either way, since there will be no point in leaving the airport after he departs.

So happy for everyone who got their "I'm a Sailor" call today! I know that I was on pins & needles waiting for my call - and then was on "Cloud 9" for a couple of days :)  All divisions have completed and we are set to go!  Oh, my, goodness - scroll up and look at the countdown clock!  I am considering just bring a beach towel to PIR - not sure that tissues will be enough ;)  My daughter and I are headed that way first thing in the morning.  We are at Navy Lodge - anyone else staying there?  I am so amped up - sure hope we sleep tonight :)
