OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Yes I just heard from my son as well. He says the division has some "teamwork" issues but they are doing better. He sounds positive!! I was so glad to hear from him!

Heard from our son today. He is doing great! He does have some concerns about his division and being able to pass inspections.  Apparently there are several recruits that are still not taking it seriously and the group is having problems with inspections. He is in DIV 923.  Apparently musicians roll to their own beat!!  I hope they straighten up and get it together for the sake of everyone.

Thanks for the info CatMom!  I did a google search but I don't think what I found applies to BC.

Great Lorena.. so happy you got a second letter!! that is awesome!!!!   my son is same ship /div..  Looking forward to meeting so many wonderful Mommas!!!! :) 5 more Fridays!!!!

@diannep...that is what I thought (letters only sent on Mondays) but I am just going off of what he said. I think maybe he meant they are not getting as much time as others to write. Either way I have gotten a phone call every week from him so I am happy and so is he. The phone calls to me are better than the letters because I get to hear his voice and hear that he is doing amazing and enjoying this experience as best as he can.

I finally got a letter from the Kiddo.  He said that he was made Master at Arms, which I'm assuming is a good thing?  LOL

Good Morning Moms!
