OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Thanks for clarifying that, markswifey!

Thanks so much everyone. All the prayers are greatly appreciated. He is feeling better today. He actually went outside for the first time in a week. Being cooped up for that long can bring you down. I am sure some sun shine will do him good :)

40inthebox, I wonder if he meant new ship? I know some divisions have been changing ships. Probably so the can do some repairs.

melindy, they get to leave about 30 min after PIR is over. They have to go back to their ship and check out and pic up pics etc. If at all possible it is a good idea to stay there as long as you can. Leaving Sunday evening or Monday morning can be a good idea. I know that I read on facebook this morning that this weeks PIR group had a lot of Sailors who didn't leave for the airport and their flights until today so those families that could stay got to spend Friday and Saturday with their Sailors :) No guarantees but many say it is well worth the risk. you can always do some sight seeing if they do leave out on Saturday.

Diannep, moving from ship 11 to ship 9 but same division. :)

...they don't have to be back on base until either 8 or 9 pm.  Your sailor will know.

Comment by markswifey on March 17, 2013 at 5:23pm
Josh'smom, i think they will still get their mails even if we send it to Ship 11, same division anyways, so no worries about not getting our previously sent mails, :)

melindy: Do you want to have lunch before the massage?  If so, I wouldn't book until around 2:30 or 3 ish.  You may not get off base before 11:30 or noon.

I just had a 40-minute conversation with my SR! Oh what a joy! :)

Anyone know, if your sailor is flying out on Saturday what is a safe time to book a massage after PIR? Will they get to leave base shortly after PIR for liberty til the evening? Thanks

TJCsMom:  Put the phone in your bra, then you will have both hands free!  :-)
