For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

So wonderful that you got to spend time with you sailor in all those places (how could you forget Hawaii?) But yea, how did you afford it? Our budget is so tight. Did only you go and did your sailor help with the airfare and hotels?

I hear ya, TJC'sMom. It takes a while to readjust one's mind from having a kid with you for 18 or more years, to suddenly they don't live there anymore. Hey, mine's getting married pretty soon! It's all new, and we will be stronger for having worked through the new phase of life, it's nice that we can do this together. And more fun :)

Good for you, Lady Hamikton!!! I, for one, am a single mom/grandmother who works a full-time job. Traveling doesn't come as easily for me. No dramatics here, just sharing my feelings, which is what I thought this site was all about. And supporting another mom's feelings, so she would know she is not alone. My SR leaving for the Navy left me an empty-nester....in reality, he won't be home again, other than short leaves for a very long time. It's a lot to adjust to, all at one time. Sorry to have confused you. :)

Whew, must be wonderful to be able to afford all those trips! I'm going to be watching and hoping for stations a little closer to home, myself. Till then, programs like Skype and oovoo are WONDERFUL for visiting with my son, and I'm SO grateful we live in an era when such amazing technology is relatively easy to come by.

When my sailor was about to miss his 3rd Thanksgiving in a row with extended family here (some only down here once a year at that time from out of town)....I decided to break off from our family here and join him at his duty station for Thanksgiving. I had no regrets and we had a great time! Spending Thanksgiving in Williamsburg VA is not such a bad place to be! Where there is a will, there is a way! :-)

Martie, I just told my daughter the same thing!! Just because he graduates BC in 12 days, it doesn't mean he's coming home anytime soon!! 6 years a really long time considering, my grand daughters (his neices) will be 10 and 7 years old!! OMG!!! I can't think about it!!!

My husband is about to divorce me-my emotions are so all over the place!!Even though I will be happy about PIR she will be GONE for 6 years after that!

thanks catmom509 great info i cant wait to see my SR along with the wonderful people i have meet here have a great day everyone praying for our SR's in their challenges this week, Also cant wait to here from my SR when he calls to say I'm a SAILOR!!
