Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I agree with ellen...no worries on the controversy in the last 4 #s of the zip. When my son was up there, he would send different numbers in those last 4 sometimes on the return address. I just kept with what was on the form letter. They really work hard to to get the letters to the SRs so like ellen said, the important part (besides the name!) is the ship/division #.

TJC'sMom, Any mail that was sent with the wrong zip+4 is not really an issue with the correct ship # and division. It may/might take an extra day, but no worries.

dustysmom16, if you look back a page or so I posted a Calvin and Hobbs comic that is too funny and might just be what our SR's are thinking. As I find more comics I'll try to post them for us to send to our SRs

Tinkerbell, I get these off http://gocomics.com it's a free site and they have sooo many different comics. However I find Calvin and Hobbs fits the bill usually pretty good.

@markswifey hang in there at least you know what day he is getting them removed not knowing till after was terrible even worse was knowing in your heart that they had been removed but not officially knowing he is in our prayers and i know his fellow sr's are keeping an eye on him my boy said that was the better part of having his wisdom teeth out. @debi i think that a few of us are printing and sending it to our sr
