OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Cricket:  You can write to your SR and ask him to put in the substitution.  They get to update their guest lists about a week before PIR.

Hi!  I have a question for the alumni parents - has anyone had to ask their SR to make a change on the access list for graduation?  We received the letter and four people are listed, but one of them will not be able to attend so we wanted to try to make a substitution, but I sure don't want to cause any grief for my son.  Is it better to just leave it alone?  Thanks!

No care pkgs can be sent to the SRs during Bootcamp.  In fact, they can get in trouble for these!  My son had that experience when someone, to this day we don't know who, was trying to be kind and sent him holiday goodies (Christmas time).  He got grilled by his RDCs on who sent it....it was from a vendor and had no name included in it.  He had no clue...once they were convinced that he knew nothing about this, they kept the pkg (he saw them eating the goodies later in their office!) and he was ok.

If your SR asks you to mail them something, and they have cleared it with their RDCs, that is ok.  Some send mole skin (for their blisters....from boots) --- a few at a time in a letter so as not to make a thick letter (which has to be opened then in front of the RDC and the SRs want no attention like this) and all are allowed to send contact lens and makeup (both should NOT be sent unless/until requested by your SR....they cannot use either of these until picture time and PIR time).  The rule of thumb is not to send anything unless your SR requested it because they can get in trouble.

Cards (white envelopes preferred, some RDCs make a big deal about colored envelopes, but not all) and letters are welcome up there!  In fact, they LIVE for mail!  So send lots of those!

Someone said we can sent care packages to our sons/daughters, any ideas what to send?  Also, I've been lucky enough to receive 8 calls from my daughter since she left 3 weeks ago.  Even though some were brief, it was nice to hear her voice.

RobinsMom: Keep calling them....you all have some time here.  They get cancellations!  Meanwhile, people need to book somewhere else, but if Navy Lodge is really where you would like to stay, keep checking back with them (call rather than check online).  There is usually no penalty for anyone to cancel a room up to the day of arrival in most cases.

Good Morning!

joefranksmom,

I just posted below you on a recommended hotel I stayed at!!

No rooms in Navy Lodge. We called last Sunday.

Navy Lodge (book in your SR's name if you do not have military ID!), Springhill Suites, Courtyard, Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express.  Call the last 4 hotels directly and ask for the Navy Grad discount.  Navy Lodge has a good rate already.

Navy Lodge is about a mile or so from RTC; the other 4 are about 4-5 miles away, but close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR for you all.  All good hotels!
We ask all to check TripAdvisor.com before booking a hotel....to see the reviews!  Some other hotels in the area may not be so great!
