OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Mybrookie-
My son is also ship03 Div 158. We got our letter the other day. I'm hoping a personal letter or phone call comes soon. My son is 18 and never been away from home. We have been preparing for 6 months for this and although he was excited, I had a difficult time. Just want to know he's ok

Congrats on the 2 great calls and hoping for longer ones this weekend!

Comment by ashley on March 11, 2015 at 1:47pm

I didn't get to ask many questions as they were right there with her. The call was for information only.  Hopefully the one this weekend will be more relaxed!

Comment by nikkosmom on March 11, 2015 at 1:44pm

I also received a quick call this morning as my son needed updated info on his references. He has a cold but he says he is loving it! I was sooo relieved. He knows he still has a lot more to go through (sounds like PT was going to get rough) but he was upbeat and excited. Told me he knows he made the right decision! Thank you God!!
