For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by diannep on March 24, 2015 at 8:40am: Do all have hotels and flights booked? Remember to check out Southwest Airlines into Milwaukee WI or Chicago-Midway. They do not ever charge a change fee if your plans change for any reason. 2 bags also check for free. Milwaukee has cheaper car rental, we have been told, and there is no traffic to GL so the drive is a little faster (but a little further in mileage)....Midway is one of the airports that your sailors may be flying from so if you plan to wait at the airport with our sailors, keep this in mind when booking your own flights.

Recommended hotels by others on this site:

Navy Lodge (book in your SR's name if you do not have military ID), Springhill Suites, Courtyard, Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express (these last 4 are in Waukegan/Gurnee area). Call these last 4 directly and ask for the Navy Grad discount.

One thing I haven't shared with this PIR group is this: There is a good chance that some of the RDCs with your SRs, or friends of theirs which give them access to info, are on both this site and the "closed" FB groups (yes, there is a way into those). We know this has happened in the past....fact. Many mistakenly believe that there is more safety in the FB closed groups. Hmmm......interesting....where last names are exposed and just about everything personal is there! Soooo....not saying this to alarm or cause anyone to flee social media. Just be careful what you post when sharing. For instance, saying your SR did great on his/her PFA is wonderful to post....saying that your SR can't stand his/her RDC....a huge no no! About 4 yrs ago, there was the wife of a SR who posted that her hubby hated RDC (name). Called him a (not nice name!). Posted that right here on this site. Then another wife commented right after that post that she should go up to that RDC after PIR and "kick him in the ___." YIKES! Back then, the PIR groups were started by a member of it (now the N4Moms veterans start the groups). I quickly contacted the group creator who was the only one who had the power to delete posts. Thank goodness she deleted both posts quickly. She was also a Navy wife. She contacted each of these ladies privately to explain....neither one of them responded to her at all. How sad....she did their SRs a huge favor....they have no clue what could have happened to those SRs if those posts had been discovered.

So, not sure you should post something here or on FB? Err on the side of caution and don't. Private message would be a little safer. Social media used wisely is a wonderful asset, but used the wrong way....ooops!

Comment by diannep on March 24, 2015 at 8:36am: Brooke: I so agree with CatMom. It is amazing how the "tables turn" at about training week 4 (Hell Week). The SRs have accomplished alot by then, are working well as a team in most cases, and the RDCs become their biggest supporters! Many of you will want to thank these RDCs after PIR....not that all are perfect! My son was in 2 different divisions so had a couple of sets of RDCs. He had the greatest respect for most of them, but there was one who attacked his faith, and attacked lots about him.....but in the end, even that one proved to have a great desire for these SRs to succeed as sailors! No one likes to get yelled at! And, yes, probably not the way we ladies would work it! :-) But the final "creation" will be observed on PIR Day....and it is amazing!

Things will change once the division starts pulling together and working as a team, then the tone the RDCs use will be encouraging. Some might still need to be yelled at, but there will be a definite shift the closer they get to PIR!!

Once the Mail Petty Officer has got the flow going, he/she can get to the backlog of mail that has probably been waiting to get sorted.... so it won't be long now!
