~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Got info from recruiter today. Son is ship 13 div 152. Hope that info is correct as I have not gotten the letter yet and just got the box today. I'll be traveling to PIR from Central Texas. Looking forward to getting to know everyone here!

Kiersten'sMom:  Be careful of the hotels/drivers charging the roundtrip shuttle fare upfront.  They use the local taxi service operating as shuttles that morning.  In last week's PIR group, some families got ripped off when they paid up front for the round trip, and ended up in another taxi going back and had to pay again.

My suggestion is for all to use Sarge's shuttle service (he has a MeetandGreet for you the night before PIR)...he doesn't make you pay roundtrip upfront....and he will make sure you get in his cab when you return.  You can sign up at his MeetandGreet....or....contact him at 847 212 0246.  Very sad that some families got ripped off by greedy drivers last Friday.  Not right....

@ schotzi Looks like our girls are together!  We're in Seattle and can't wait to go to her graduation too.  We just booked our tickets and hotel for the Residence Inn Waukegan, they have a shuttle for $6 roundtrip, per person to the base.  Going to get a car but not take it that morning.  I heard it's a pain.  We're going to stay until Sunday afternoon so we could spend as much time as possible with her since her A School in Chicago is 27 weeks.

Welcome to all of the new members here!  Good Morning!

I am one of your N4Moms veterans, here to help you through Bootcamp.

schotzi:  Glad you are back!  Your son went in the year my son went in.  Mine is now out and will be completing his B.A. in May....mostly courtesy of the GI Bill!  He is so excited!  Another "perk" of the Navy....in a time with college education is so very expensive (it helped that he went into the Navy with a A.S. degree already though---so he could get through it more quickly).

I want to remind everyone on here that there is lots of info to read through under the "pages" section, above and to the right, under the MEMBERS PHOTO BOX.   I will be adding the Livestream info soon....the PIR service is livestreamed now for those who cannot attend.

Also, please read through the Family Guide on the RTC site, in the link below.  Lots of info there too.  After reading all of the info, please post here if you have any questions!

http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/fam_guide.asp

It is not too early to make your hotel reservations for PIR.  There is no penalty if you have to change or cancel (usually up until day before or day of arrival) if you book directly with the hotel---be careful booking on the discount travel sites online as they usually do have fees charged if you cancel.  Be sure to ask for the Navy Graduation discount when you call the hotel directly.  The ones who have received good reviews on this site are:

Navy Lodge Great Lakes (mile from RTC, book in your SR's name if you yourself do not have military ID)

Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn, Residence Inn (we stayed there...very nice), Holiday Inn Express....all of these are in the Waukegan/Gurnee area, about 4-5 miles from RTC, but near Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR for the families of the sailors.

For those booking flights, wait for the form letter before doing this....don't book on the recruiter's info alone.  Recently we had form letters mailed out with the wrong PIR date.  So just wait to make sure that the date is correct.  Consider booking on Southwest Airlines into Milwaukee WI (45 min to GL) or Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL)...there is no change fee charged if you have to change reservations and 2 bags check for free.  Southwest also offers one-way specials....so be sure to check those....many of you may know this already, but the "experts" say that if you can actually book your tickets on Tuesdays before 3 pm (not your travel dates, but when you just book your ticket)....you usually get the lower rates.

Welcome to the emotional journey of Nayv Bootcamp!

We are from NY - right outside of NYC; where you all from?

Comment by schotzi on March 4, 2014 at 5:41am

Hello All.  My daughter is also Ship 09 Div 150.  She will be going to Pensacola for A school as a CTN.  LOL Kierstin'sMom, I get you about the shirt!  Looking forward to the PIR.  I was there in 2009 for my son's - he is a nuke in a sub.  He is one of the reason's my daughter joined the Navy- she saw just how much the Navy has done for him.  I received her box the Friday after she left and the letter came yesterday.  The PIR is a very special event, impressive - looking forward to it.
