OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Dianne: I appreciate your service to this group. I really do.

Now, anyone who shares the 157 with my girl or the sister div, please feel free to contact me. Would love to chat and see what friendships develop!

Brother divisions train together and they all know each other.  Some of my son's best friends were actually in his brother division when he was there. Here are the brother divisions for this group:

157/158

159/160

161/162

163/164

165/166

924 doesn't have a brother division

Chele:  You are welcome!  I have been helping on the PIR groups since late 2009/early 2010 so repetition helps to get the facts down....until they change it up!  OOPS!  HA!  We are constantly tweaking our info to make sure it is updated.  When my son flew to Meridian back in early 2010, his plane out of Chicago was delayed....3 times.  They missed their connection in Atlanta and Delta had to put them up for the night...uh oh....a bunch of sailors, just out of bootcamp, loose in Atlanta!  YIKES!  But there is order in the chaos (i.e., a sailor put in charge) so all was good!

Comment by diannep on March 6, 2013 at 11:43pm

Looks like the divisions for this PIR group are as follows:

PIR 04/26/2013 TG 24 11 Divisions (157-166, 924)

(TG=Training Group)

RTC will confirm soon and then we can put them up in the title.

The GOOD news is that if there are 11 divisions, each SR will be allowed 4 guests at PIR.  The larger groups are only allowed 3.

Anyone with a SR in Ship 03 Division 163?

Comment by Chele PS mom on March 6, 2013 at 8:31pm

Thanks Dianne! All she said was Meridian, so I am assuming MS. Great! Now I can book my flights! You rock for the quick info.

Comment by diannep on March 6, 2013 at 8:28pm

Chele:  Are you sure she didn't mean Meridian Mississippi?  That is where my son went.  Most of them will be flying out on Saturday sometime.  Occasionally they leave on Sunday, if they couldn't get flights on Sat.  Would be best for you to return on Sunday if you can, just in case she stays over.  You can visit at the airport with your sailor until the plane leaves.

Debbie, I am hoping for my letter, too!!!! I have sent 4 letters, now. :) I sure hope he doesn't feel like he has to answer them all. lol....

Comment by Chele PS mom on March 6, 2013 at 5:30pm

Ok, perhaps it was Mississippi...I just know she said Meridian.

Comment by Chele PS mom on March 6, 2013 at 5:16pm

I only know what she told me (would it have changed from before she went in?) She said Mediian, GA
