i was wondering JTFsubmom - what rank your son is - Mine is E-3 and he told me once that he had to be an E-5 rank before he could even get an apartment off the base. I guess it is going to be different for yours once he marries. There is so much to understand that I don't get yet about when things will happen and how long I will have to see my son before he actually goes on a sub - I am not even sure what kind of sub or where they will send him - he says he will know at the end of A school, I am having a tough time waiting for that info. It must be even worse for you because now you will have to worry about two. Lord - I hope they wait a little after they are married to have their first little one. Birth Control - make sure you remind them about birth control - yikes! I guess some of these young guys just love a challenge - cold weather, submarines, wives - I think I am just to old for that kind of challenge.
A saddle block is kind of like an epidural - it is what is used to stop the pain of delivery - like twilight sleep - I can't think of the other names they use - been a long time for me.
Wow - I was just thinking - before you know it you will be a grandma LOL
I only have my one son, do you have any more kids?
Hi JTFsubmom - I am glad we are linked together. So your son is still going to school? Mine is finishing A School in May. When your son goes out on a sub, it is going to be tough on this young relationship. My son's commanding officer told him not to get involved with anyone because many relationships don't make it.
The good thing is - he will be loved and have a special person, besides us, to write to and tell stories to and cry to and laugh with.
You know, moms and dads are cool but no one could ever match your lover when you were young. I remember. I did not love my mom any less, I just felt more at ease talking to my friends. I am not sure why that is - but it is.
So they will be planning a wedding- did you say in Tucson? Is that where you live? How long will he have for a honeymoon before the NAVY gets him back?
Fill me in here, as this is very interesting. You know my mom met my dad in the Navy and they lived in an Airstream Trailer on base - My mom had me in the Marine Hospital and I was the first child to be born using the "saddle block"
procedure in that hospital. I am on camera somewhere - being born - so says my mom.
My father was a high ranking officer though so it might be a bit different.
Things have really changed. I hear that now the spouse is treated very well and gets many special benefits. I am so happy for your son. I will keep you and them both in my thoughts. Keep be abreast of what is happening, if you can.
Bye - Linda
Good morning!! Thank you for all the info on Groton moms!! All this not knowing is so hard!! My son isn't always forthcoming with information so I appreciate it! I used to be a stay at home mom but not any more. :( I loved it though. Of course all my kids were home so that helped!
I have a friend in Tucson-her name is Sue Lamberson and she is in charge of the Heads at Ease group; we make pillowcases to send to deployed troops. I was wondering if you're in that group too. One of these days my husband and I want to come to Tucson to poke around; now I know two people there!!! So glad to meet you too!!!
thanks again for your help!! Sandy :)
Thank you,
Shelly Minsky
Welcome to NavyforMoms.com. My name is Ronny and my son has been in the Navy since February of 2012. He is currently stationed in San Diego with a Helicopter Squadron. He is an Aviation Structural Mechanic. I hope you find all the info you are looking for here, and if you have any questions feel free to ask. My son is 3rd Generation Navy, so I do know a little about the Navy..:)
If you have a new Sailor who is in Boot Camp, or leaving soon, visit CallsforRecruits.org and I will send you FREE Pre-Paid Phone cards for your SR to use while they are in boot camp. I started that program when my son left for Boot Camp :)
Welcome Aboard and I wish your Sailor Fair Winds and Following Seas.
That is fabulous, Julie! I'm surprised the letter arrived so soon...someone up above must've thought you deserved to be able to breathe easy! Exhale and relax, now, you'll be getting a phone call before you know it!
