~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Hello all!  Just received my form letter today!  Our son is on Ship 13, Div 164.  I'm just wondering, I thought they had 8 weeks of BT, but if their PIR is May 2, that only makes 6 weeks.  Am I calculating this wrong?  Not that I'm complaing or anything.  Just wondering.  I can't wait to see him!!

Thanks Dianne. I'll type the letters and print the pictures on the back of them. Our son is only 1, so he's doing some pretty cute stuff that I'm sure would lift my husbands spirits.

Heather:  We always suggest that pictures be printed on the back of letters or on a separate piece of paper so that the letters are not thick, which makes them have to open them in front of the RDCs.  Also they have very limited storage space so this makes it easy for them to store lots of pictures!

Ship 13 Div 164!

Just got the form letter today!! My husband is Ship 11 DIV 162. I've made all of the travel arrangements, and I'm mailing all of the letters I have written so far in the morning . I want to send my husband a few photos of our son, but the smallest print size the photo lab I went to offers is a 4x6. They fit in the envelope just fine, but I wasn't too sure if 4x6 is an appropriate size. Should I have them re-printed at another photo lab that offers prints in a smaller size, or should I be okay with the ones that I've already had printed?

Happy St. Patrick's day, everyone!

I've just booked my hotel for my SR's PIR date. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the Meet and Greet to see you all; the only flight available from my area in Colorado lands in Chicago on Thursday night! With that being said, is there anyone else that will be landing at O'Hare at a similar time? If so, maybe we would take the OldSarge's transportation system and split the cost!

diannep:  Gosh, yes, we can forward our calls to one of our cell phones.  DUH.  Thanks for the suggestion!

Loralee,

That is great to know about St.Patrick!!  Thanks for sharing that~~  Love to find out there is a spiritual foundation to the day everyone considers themselves "Irish." Wonder why all the drinking and green food though??   :)

Comment by diannep on March 17, 2014 at 5:29pm

Cybermama:  It just depends on how much time they are given per SR to make calls.  Sometimes they do get to make more than one call.  Is there any way that you can forward your home phone to your cell phone????  Just make sure you have your cell on ring and vibrate, and maybe put it in your bra so you don't miss the call!

Thanks for the interesting info, Loralee!

Welcome to the group, Aec!

By the way, Loralee is correct in checking the recruiter's address with your form letter...sometimes the address is a little off.  Form letter is the correct one.  But even so, the letters will eventually get to your SR....just may take a little longer!
