N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Huh? I was in the Navy, husband is still in and even while in when one would ask, "what is your rate?" My answer were be Fire Controlman. When someone would ask, "what is your rank?" I would answer, second class. When did this change?
Comment by ellen0502 on March 14, 2014 at 1:40pm

To help remember the difference between Rate and Rating, here are two questions.

What is your payRATE?  What was your percentile RATING on your last test in school?

Enlisted=Rate

Commissioned Officer=Rank

I do apologize CatMom, all these years and I have never heard it said that way. All the terms gets confusing. It would just be easier to say Job. Thank You for the correction.

Loralee,

Another veteran mom, lemonelephant, taught me the difference, so this is what I go by.  It should be Rate.  Rank might mean a commissioned officer, but I can check it out further later.  Plus I know Navy and Army have different terms for the same thing.  Thanks~~

Ladies this is not my first ride with the Navy. My oldest son graduated RTC in May 2006, now 8 years later my youngest son will graduate RTC. They both followed in their Dad's foot steps, who was in the Navy in the early 80's. My oldest son did his 4 years in the Navy, then joined the Army and is now stationed in Germany. I am very proud of both my son's.

Good Morning Ladies!  I am another N4Moms veteran, like ellen, CatMom, and Lala, on the PIR groups to help!  My son was at bootcamp back in 2009....he has now been honorably discharged and is hoping to finally have his B.A. degree in May...fingers crossed!....courtesy of the GI Bill.  I just LOVE helping on here...so even though he is out of the Navy, I'm still here on this group!

Welcome to Bootcamp!  It is an emotional up and down journey for all of you...for the SRs for sure.  Please read through the info in the 'pages' section under the MEMBERS PHOTO BOX up top....lots of good info there.  Ask any questions you have right here...one of us will be glad to answer!

Loralee,

Rating is your SR's job (IT, Corpsman, Air Crew, etc...).  Rate is their pay level (E-1, E-2, E-3, etc...)
