~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

scottstar: Oh boy....so hoping that the dr "clears" him. Please keep us informed! Go on the "no news is good news" theory if you don't hear from him!
Jamie'sMom: My theory on the sicknesses that happen in each and every PIR group (including my son's when he was there) is that their bodies are bombarded with vaccinations, etc when they arrive...way too many at once, in my book. These can temporarily lower their immune system, making them susceptible to germs that are circulating around there. Plus, they normally get a flu shot, although maybe only cat ertain times of the year...and many can actually develop a light case of the flu as a result of this.
Our famiily is very natural...no meds, all vitamins, healthy foods, exercise. My sons were the "prize" of their pediatrician's office in that they just had their "well visits" most of their lives....very little sickness. So....when my son went into the Navy, I was surprised that he got sick too. As I saw how many get sick, I did some research and came up with what I just said.
The good news is that most of them get well without being delayed by Medical. Even some of those who end up with pneumonia and may be hospitalized briefly have managed to not be set back many times....also, the RDCs are good about giving LD (light duty) for those who are feeling under the weather, trying to keep them from being asmoed (setback).
Hope he feels better soon!
I'm praying for all the SR's that are having a difficult time right now, whether from illness or other issues that God will lay a healting hand upon them and give them the strength and courange they need to complete this journey. I also pray that God will give the families the strength to be there for their SR's and guide them no matter the situation.
God bless all of you on this Palm Sunday.
We got our call yesterday (13/170) and he sounded down because he may be medically discharged from a torn ligament in his left knee and torn hamstring. He said they told him it was from an old injury that healed and because of all the training it is reoccuring?? Not sure about that, he did have grafting done on his ligaments in his right leg and they have all the med records but never any issues with the left. He sees the Dr. on Wed and will find out his fate then. If dicharged they told him he could go to PT for 6-9 months and if it heals and looks good then he could start the Navy process over again. Praying that what th Dr. sees on Wednesday is good enough for him to be able to stay and finish this adventure. I will be praying for all the SR"s especially those who sick and injured and looking at a discharge. May all these SRS make it PIR together. Leave no one behind.
Joelle415, I'm so sorry to hear that. My son James is in the same ship/div and called his girlfriend last night and told her he has the flu. Wonder why so many of them are getting sick.??? I hope Jamie doesn't get worse, but she said he sounded the most low and tired he's ever sounded, and isn't getting enough sleep to get better. Hope today is more rest for them all and that your SR recovers without being medically discharges. It hardly seems fair for the Pushed thru divisions...when they were told PIR would be 5/17 then to arrive there and work harder so they can graduate on 5/3. I don't get it...Aren't there PIR ceremonies every Friday? Why couldn't they just graduate as planned and have the normal hard days without getting sick? Now I'm worried and I wasn't before.
I'm glad phone calls came but so sorry to hear that some were distressing. MistyK & Joelle15: prayers for both your recruits
Proudmama - it is tough to hear that kind of call. When I write my letters, I always make sure to remind him that this time in boot camp is short compared to his entire enlistment. It is not going to last forever & he has to get through this brief period of time. He's got our love & support as well as the support of many friends & family members back home who ask about him & are rooting for him. Next time you write, make sure he knows his adopted N4M's moms are praying for him & you & he will make it through this.
mistyk: Prayers for him....he will get there....training week 4 (about bootcamp week 5 or so) is a turning point for them. You will see the change in them. In the meantime, lots of prayers!
So sorry about the tears, proudmama. But it will get better for him and you will hear the "smile" in his voice again! Hang in there...nothing worse than hearing our children cry like that....
Should add that they are bussed to the airports anywhere from midnight to 2 a.m.. But there is a process when they arrive so if you arrive then, you will not be able to be with them right away. There are hundreds of sailors arriving that need to get bags checked, etc. So just know that you will wait a while to be with them if you go out there in the wee hours.
proudmom: Yes, you can meet them at the airports when they fly out, talk to them, be with them at the gate until departure (take ID for a gate pass). They start flying out around 6 a.m. and go throughout the day. Your sailor should know flights by PIR Day.
Hello Proudmomma. I'm sure this had to have been so hard to hear him crying on the other end and not being able to hug him. Just remember this is the toughest time and things will get better for him. I have not heard from my son yet and am wondering how he is doing. Keep your chin up and remember its only a few more weeks! Try to focus on this summer when he will hopefully be able to come home on leave after A school! Take care and lean on all of us, in your shoes, for support :)
