N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hello all, just wanted to say be stalking your mailboxes. I got the first personal letter today and I saw someone say they got mail yesterday. Of course I am sure this will also depend on your SR's division. So exciting, reestablishing some form of communication is so incredibly stress relieving. Good luck to all of you on a great mailbox find today or very soon!

Jamie'smom:  They won't know what airport they are leaving from until shortly before PIR day.  It is about 30 miles between OHare and Midway.  If there is any way to book your flights back on Sunday, later....you may get extra time with your new sailor if he doesn't leave until Sunday.  Although most fly out on Saturdays, occasionally they can't get flights until Sunday.  He will know his flights by PIR day.

If your sailor leaves on Saturday, then after your airport visit, you can do some sightseeing in the area!

You can give them a few civilian clothes but they can't wear them for about 3 weeks at A School---they have to phase up first.  You may want to ask your SR as PIR draws closer what he would like for you to bring up for A School.  Remember, you can always mail things to him at A School too.  He will have limited space in his Navy luggage (seabag, garment bag - uniforms, black backpack) so don't plan on bringing too much.

Now, if anyone has a sailor staying in GL for A School, they can bring more items since the sailor will have plenty of opportunity to get those items back to his local base. They get daytime Liberty through the weekend if staying in GL.

Please ask any questions....any time!  :-)

is there any way to find out which airport my son will fly out of (and what time/airline) on Saturday to go to his A school in South Carolina? We want to book our flights, but want to make sure we can go to the same airport and see him on Saturday before he flies out (to give him his phone, etc...) BTW, what else can we give them there? Clothes, etc? How do they get their other items that they left at home once they graduate from boot camp? This is all so new and we are learning by baby steps how it goes...this group is the only place we're learning too so I appreciate you all so much!

Man this is great! ~ha....
I will NEVER look at y'all sailors the same in their PT gear... They're Minions !!!
Send this to your sailors, they will get a huge laugh....

(for those that don't know, Minions are from the Universal Pictures comedy movie "Despicable Me"...)

Comment by diannep on March 20, 2013 at 10:39pm

...and it would have been a "supervised" call, navywife...which means "the powers that be" were right there with him!  Hoping you get a more personal call soon!
