For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on March 20, 2013 at 7:55am: theresa: The Navy Lodge is a real bargain for your money...and we have always heard great reviews on it. Clean, close to base, decent rooms---some have kitchenettes. You book in your SR's name. Tell them you are there for graduation since it is reserved for military families. They also give you a NEX pass to use at one of the smaller NEXs....you usually have to have your sailor with you to visit a NEX, but not with this pass. Springhill Suites is good also, a little more expensive than Navy Lodge. Courtyard as well. We stayed at Residence Inn and liked it, but it is more pricey than the others...but good for larger groups since they have studios and 2 bdrm 2 bth units, all with kitchens (some like to cook for their sailors when there!).

I know people have stayed at the Comfort Inn you mentioned, but don't know how it is since no one has really posted reviews here. We know the ones I mentioned above are all good from what the ladies have posted in the past.

That would be great, Lala. We could meet "halfway" for lunch! But you would want to "keep" your mtn house to get out of there during hurricane season...hot, muggy, windy! :-)

If my Sailors were based there I think I would move to be there as well lol :) I could definitely love living in warm weather year round and if it got too hot in the summer I could come back to the mountains like all the other Floridians do hahaha

Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, S. Dakota, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Tennessee

The changes usually occur sometime in May-June and Oct-Nov. Some bases/commands may never change from blues to whites and vise versa.

The dress blues can be worn year round though for travel, etc.
