For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I just started a new job and they are pretty strict about no cell phones on the floor...but i guess hearing from my sailor is worth the trouble. :) also question he sent his phone card back in his box...so i sent it back to him in a letter.. When should they start getting letters?

Comment by ellen0502 on March 17, 2013 at 10:14pm: Phone calls can come on any day usually between the hours of 8am and 8pm central time. The last couple of months the PIR groups have been lucky with phone calls. A year ago you got the "I am here", "I am still Alive", and the "I am a Sailor" call, and if lucky, maybe one other phone call.

Keep your phone handy all the time!!!

Probably have 15 letters. Then son can give out to sailors that haven't received mail. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Comment by diannep on March 17, 2013 at 5:00pm: A little explanation of the ships/division numbers. The "ship" number is actually the barracks number. There are several divisions housed in each "ship." The division number is the group they train with. They actually train with a brother division also. We think the brother divisions in this PIR group are:

167/168, 169/170, 171/172, 173/174, 175/176

925 doesn't train with a brother division

Sooo....when you see someone post in not only your division number, but your brother division number, you may want to friend request that person and start getting to know them!

Wondering if there were other ships who placed phone calls home along with ship 3 div 171. My son is on Ship 2 Div 925 and curious if anyone with a SR on this ship has received one yet. So happy for those who have gotten calls! What an awesome early surprise :)
