Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by MamaKrayKray on April 24, 2013 at 11:41am: diannep - one more question. In the discussion above about pertinent PIR information, I have a ten year old that does not have a photo ID. Will he need a phote ID when we meet our son at the airport while waiting for his flight to A school? Or will a certified birth certificate work for any security clearance he will need? They do not issue photo ID's for that age group yet.

Comment by diannep on April 24, 2013 at 8:19am: MamaKrayKray: If Sarge is the one providing your shuttle service to PIR, you would sign up with him (at MeetandGreet or before). But for those using the PIR shuttle service that the hotels use, you would book it when you check in. I believe both services are the same price....Sarge's may be "free" if you use his airport service.

Comment by ellen0502 on April 24, 2013 at 12:42am: It is safe to bring something to PIR to eat, that isn't a problem at all. The Navy Lodge does breakfast in a bag that many take to PIR.

There is also a booth in the Drill Hall that sells water, Dixie Cups for the little ones (since your sailor cannot share his navy hat)and a few other souvenirs.

Comment by ellen0502 on April 23, 2013 at 10:38pm: We drove to PIR, but my sons PIR was little (5 divisions). Since my son stayed in GL it was nice to be able to hang around until he had to report back to move to the TSC side, then go to our car and leave. It also allowed us to run a couple of errands right after PIR and before he was ready to leave base for liberty. My 82 year old mother was with us so it was also more convenient for us to take our car.

You will be able to take your car back to the main gate on the TSC side to pick up your SR when he is ready to leave. It takes several hours for them to get moved, bussed over to the TSC and checked in after PIR.
