Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by sarmar927 on April 15, 2013 at 1:26pm: Does anyone know if the number of guests allowed for PIR changed since the form letter was sent out? My SR is in DIV 175 and I thought it said that he could only bring 3 guests, but now everywhere it says 4.

Comment by ellen0502 on April 15, 2013 at 11:32am: MamaKrayKray, It used to be the case where retired and active only needed to show an ID and they would be allowed into PIR, but not anymore. All of that changed at the same time the number allowed and the age requirements for being on the list changed. Everyone three years and older in attendance must be on the list.

Comment by MamaKrayKray on April 15, 2013 at 10:21am: Questions re: guests for PIR. I know each recruit is only allowed 4 guests. I think I read somewhere that veterans are allowed into PIR whether they are there for a recruit or not & need to show military ID to be admitted. Is this correct?

Comment by MamaKrayKray on April 15, 2013 at 9:54am: I checked my email settings & I requested email notifications as daily - that might be why there is down time in receiving notifications; there is an option for receiving them instantly.

Comment by MamaKrayKray on April 15, 2013 at 9:49am: FTLW & diannep: The only other thing I can offer is that for whatever reason I have noticed that sometimes I get friend notifications on N4M's only if they request me first. When I get those, the email notification may follow a day later. If someone is already on my friends list it comes through the email without a notification on N4M's. Also, my email notifications come anywhere from 1 to 2 days after the posting or request has been made. Not sure why the down time. I don't know if any of this helps or just makes the situation worse, but thank you both for trying to figure it all out for us & future moms/dads/spouses/significant others : )

Comment by diannep on April 15, 2013 at 8:32am: FTLW: It is very confusing. I send the BattleStations info in a friend request back to the person who requested it. But some are saying that there is no info attached when they check it in their home email? I don't know. Most are getting it, but some are not.

I know that when someone hits ACCEPT before reading the info (when checking it on this site), the info goes away and they think I didn't answer them. Wish there was a better system to get dates to all, but without being able to post them on these pages, not sure what else to do. We cannot email to personal email addresses from this site, so that is not an option.
