For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on April 11, 2013 at 8:21am: The "I'm a Sailor" calls for this group will start in about 2 weeks for some divisions. So it won't be that long before the next calls. And remember, they can earn calls as rewards so continue to keep those phones handy because you never know!

Comment by irene (9/174) on April 10, 2013 at 8:23pm: She has called four times (including first night). The last call was on Monday, 4/1, about 4:30. She said that was their halfway call and I wouldn't hear back from her until the end. An hour later I got a text from boyfriend saying to tell her he was in class and could not answer his phone. Have you sent them questionnaires? I have sent her four or five and she has mailed two back. She got a kick out of them. And it leaves her more time to write to bf. Last week's letter had a list of things to bring to PIR. Hang in there, you will get a letter soon.

Comment by 1proudmama/EM/USSLincoln/CVN72 on April 10, 2013 at 8:11pm: I usually get mail on Thursdays, but have a couple of friends that live in the midwest and they received mail today their boys stated we might get calls Friday or Saturday. With them finishing up hell week maybe just maybe this will come true. Keep your phones charged and on. I'm in landscaping and this will be busy weekend for me. I don't care if I'm in middle of huge sale I'm dropping everything to talk to my son.

Comment by diannep on April 10, 2013 at 7:36pm: One thing to ask your SRs is what they want you to bring to PIR for them. Either to take to A School...or....just to use after PIR if hanging out in the hotel room, etc.
