Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by HizproudMama on April 10, 2013 at 12:57pm: Ohhh ok.. is that " the cracker jack uniform"? I just googled and I so thought that was a black color. My husband said no the Navy doesn't have any black uniforms they're all Blue of some sort.

Thanks Ellen will pass along that it is just a rumor and blues are still going to be it. I prefer blues a little bit just because here shortly they will be in whites.

The Navy has so many different uniforms compared to Army. Is it the denim looking jeans and blue shirt? I've been surfing this site for the past few minutes trying to find a picture.

HizproudMama: I had on "waterproof" eye makeup for my son's PIR. Yeah, right....I looked horrible in piks in PIR Hall--not a stitch of makeup left...cried like a baby (proud!) during most of the ceremony. Some just bypass the makeup because of that! :-)

I've been thinking about how my makeup will make me look like a clown after all the tears smearing everywhere never thinking about it rubbing off onto him. I don't know who's gonna be holding him closer me or his girlfriend. Might be hard for me to rem the hand thingy in the moment.
