Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on April 10, 2013 at 11:43am: marla: Have messaged the person I know on the base up there about blues vs whites to make sure nothing has changed. It is possible that the RDCs told your daughter that, not realizing exactly when they change. It is different each year, and sometimes it has been in April in the past.

Comment by diannep on April 10, 2013 at 11:40am: samar: Another Navy mom told us that when embracing your sailor, place your hand flat on their shoulder and rest your chin on that when you hug him/her so as to protect that uniform (blue or white) from makeup! Here is a picture of this particular Navy mom, who didn't want to miss a phone call from her sailor when he was at bootcamp!

You're right Rtarbaby, graduation is graduation! I'm so ready for it to be here! 3 more weeks. Gosh i am so excited!

I vote for the blues - not that I have a vote - but if I did it would be for the dress blues.

Comment by marla.rae on April 10, 2013 at 8:28am: My daughter said they were wearing white. She said they change a few days before graduation. Perhaps she heard wrong, and they are changing a few days after, not before. I don't know, but I'm with Melissa I like the dress blues better.

Comment by diannep on April 10, 2013 at 7:35am: One more point on the date for the change to the whites, remember that different areas change at different times. The "colder" climates stay in blues longer than those in warmer climates. So it is possible that someone heard a different date for the change to whites for a different part of the country.
