Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I'm so worried about my son during hell week, in this weeks letter he still sounded rough. I have everyone praying for him and everyone else during this week to get them all through it in one piece...;(

Comment by Tara-Sailor Mom on April 6, 2013 at 4:49pm: Hi, from what I've seen hell week is when they start putting together a lot of the things they've learned these past weeks, up very early (3:30a is what I saw on one list). Seems as if they get thru this their pretty much on the home stretch-outside of battlestations. I'll see if I can find the week to week list of what they do and post it here.

Thanks for your update - the two calls we received were both on Saturdays at 6 pm as well!! So, I'm embarrased to ask, but what is hell week???

No call this week (a VERY short one last week-Thurs). he sent a short letter to my daughter this week and asked that she relay a HI and info to the rest of us. It seems they are VERY busy and just havent had the time to write. I'm hoping for a call tonight (it usually came around 6p EST) but I'm not holding my breath. I'd be very suprised if they allowed a call during hell week.

Wondering if anyone from 03/171 has received any recent calls. No letters this week either. I understand that no news is good news, but the silence is still deafening.
